Shame about the Blue.

Have some eggs in the bator also. Bought myself a second one - Hovabator 1588, so I'm trying a staggered hatch by using my LG for lockdown and I'm not opening it until all is done this time...no matter what. Trying not to get addicted to hatching...

STOP THAT KIND OF TALK RIGHT NOW!

There are so many variables in hatching. . . . One little thing can be off and there goes the hatch.
It is WONDERFUL that boyfriend wants to help. . .. FOR SURE, let the boy practice on CHEAP eggs

The poor boy never appreciated what a GREAT thing those broody hens were!

Half of my flock I got with the intention of having a broody. I betcha I could get a car load of silkies and they would NEVER go broody.

My last hatch was my own and MAN DID I MESS IT UP. . . . I was cussin and fussin the whole time "What a stupid stupid thing"
The next hatch is due to go into lock down in a few days.

Hopefully, I don't make any studpid mistakes this time around

BEFORE that, I had some really good hatches. . . .

We have modifies something after each hatch. . . I tried to go with lower humidity last time and I was not happy. . . I am going back to what was working for me this time around! I find it interesting that we are all having to find "THE SPOT", "THE ZONE", "THE SETTING" that will hatch eggs for us. . .. You would think we would all use exactly the same settings . .. . but that is NOT the case.

Mornin' back to you and everyone!

I'm still waiting on my mystery hatch....I know that they will inevitably hatch, but exactly when?

I have no idea!!

Hopefully I'll be able to get lots done today and not think about it.

Surprise in the bator this morning!

Day 22 and 11 black copper marans hatched as of last night, I woke up this morning to a yellow chick in my bator. Everything I've read here tells me that I have a wheaten - but wait...is that blue butt fluff I see? It's still in the bator getting dry so I haven't had a good close up look yet. I've been hatching many dozens of these eggs for two years and this is an absolute first for me. It definitely came from a marans egg. I have two boys in my flock, one of which is a Presley. I don't know that any of my birds are Wade Jeans. Could be, I bought my original eggs from a lady that didn't offer that information and I was too dumb to ask. Every single one of my marans are feather legged, as are their chicks, but I don't see any feathers on this baby's legs. Once it's dry, I'll post up a pic for some expert eyeballing.

My question; Can a wheaten be sexed at hatch? I notice that the roos tend to grow up to look a lot like a BCM and the females are wheat colored. Do wheaten cockerels hatch out yellow? ETA: *correction - the legs are feathered*

What are those bearded splashes in the background? Ameraucanas or EE's? By the way, WAY cool splash boy there.

Thanks VC! The 2 Splash girls in the back are both products of my Bill boy as well. One of them is a Olive Egger (Bill cross Blue Ameraucana) that lays the prettiest and darkest olive egg I get when she lays. The other one is her sister that was suppose to be an OE (same cross as sister) but she has a single comb and lays a nice Marans egg. I am going to be putting a Splash Davis hen and a Davis BCM pullet in with him today, the BCM pullet lays a lighter milkier chalky colored egg, so I am curious to see what his egg color gene will do with her offspring.
