Congratulations!!!! I can hardly wait to get eggs from my 3 BCM pullets. How old are your ladies?

Mine are about 25 weeks old, so i was surprised when I say the egg, I am used to Ameraucanas which take a little longer

Thanks

I have a wedding to go to in October. The bride is expecting Marans eggs as a wedding present so I'm hoping my girls are laying by then (sort of - I've had early layers before that ended up with egg binding problems so I will NEVER wish for early laying again). It will be close. My girls will be 24 weeks at the time of the wedding.

I am supposing that Marans are slower maturing? It seems that mine is taking her time bulking up, so to speak, and her legs are thick, her feet are huge. I have heard of some Marans taking as long as 30 weeks to lay?!

My pullets were born Jan 21 and started laying on June 6....

That is about 19 weeks and I am delighted!
Looks like my cockerels are early to crow and my pullets are early to lay!

My blue hen began laying at 25 weeks. The other two are 24 weeks and Sherman has started trying to woo them. One girl's comb has doubled in size. I'm hoping for more little fart eggs very soon!

Does anyone sell/ship day old BCM/Blue Copper chicks? Or hatching eggs even? I'm only seeing Wheatons on the auction portion. Just wondering if there will be some available soon maybe? I want to get some more for my little front-pasture flock, and I'm having a hard time locating them...

Good morning all

9gerianMile ~ Welcome to the Marans thread! Quite a few folks on here sell eggs, some may even sell chicks but don't know if they ship them?

Today is the day for flock consolidation! Started yesterday evening by opening the pen door of the chick's pen. Thought I'd just sit back and watch who goes in and who comes out, who is after whom, and get an idea of the pecking order. The older roos in the run at the time, Clyde and Pip, were very good with the chicks. Don't get me wrong, these aren't itty bittys, these are 13 weeks old. Left the pen door open last night so everyone could meet on their own in the morning. A few skirmishes, but nothing terrible. Blue Butt immediately set his sites on Charlotte, my little blue pullet. She of course, had other ideas!

Just looked out at the run. All the chicks are in the main run digging around, and all the big chooks are in the little pen! Goofy birds. We'll see how it goes tonight when 3 of the 4 older hens get back to the run. The hens are usually the worst as far as bullying goes. Yes! Now I can get the 6 weekers out of my house and into the chick pen outside!!!

Good Morning, Friends!
The sun is out and it's a beautiful morning here in the Pacific Northwest. The temperature might even get up to 70 today, if it tries real hard.

There have been a few "happenings" around here...to start with, I have successfully re-homed Madison and the other Splash roo. That leaves me with two Blue Copper Roos that are brothers from the same hatch. Collectively known as "The Blues Brothers", I have named them Jake and Elwood. These are the two Roos that I will keep for my flock.

Also, 3 days ago I got my first olive-colored egg! How kewl is that!

It sure is noticeably quieter around here without Madison. I didn't realize how much his talking added to the atmosphere of the place. I am confident, however, that once Jake & Elwood start to talk there will be no shutting them up!
