Anyone have an extra Black or Blue copper marans cockeral or possibly a pair? I lost my cockeral recently, just have one pullet. Live in central Wisconsin, and would hope to meet at a show or swap. I will be going to the International poultry show in Portage Wi on September 25. Also to the swaps Sept 11 in Kellner WI (near Wisconsin Rapids); October 9 swap in Neilsville WI; October 16 or 17 in Beaver Dam, WI; and Fond du Lac, WI on Oct 30. Thanks for any info

Paula

Not exactly a blue copper...He is supposed to be a solid blue but has copper on the neck:

He is a real big boy, Super fast at maturing, (He was the Alfa male of the 8 males) , nice manners, but I want to cull him,(Copper) and it would be a shame for him to go to freezer camp.

I have a couple very good Black Ameraucana cockerels from Paul Smith. They have to go to. Again a shame to go to the freezer with them.

I will not be going to any of the meets but drive down the I39 corridor monthly to the beaver dam area.
Free too a good home..!!

Here he is a few weeks back. Post #1320 (now he has even more copper.) Cockerel #1

Correct...you can get to the blue copper from this cross but the resulting offspring may or may not show copper if you are using a solid blue to the BCM. I have made this cross many times and the copper is not always correct...ie...too little to none. Getting the copper correct will take a couple more generations sometimes longer, but as with everything else with this breed it is all a work in progress, so have fun and experiment with them to see what you get and work with them from there, besides hatching out those babies is just plain FUN Chooks and you know it.

Yes you can get some Splash babies from the latter cross, if you want a higher percentage of splash babies, just cross the blue to splash. The resulting offspring may or may not show copper, they can have the gene but not show it. If you want the Splash birds to show copper, your best bet would be to use parent birds that both show copper. No it won't ruin the splash coloring if a splash expresses copper, you will have a Copper Splash. I love them!!!!!

Organics North.....

I would really be interested in that Marans cockeral, maybe an Ameraucana as well. I have alot of roosters to sell too. Blue/Black Ameraucanas (Paul Smith and McKinney Govero hatchery Lines), Buff Ameraucanas, blue/black standard cochins, and silver spitzhaubens. I only live about 10 miles from I-39 so maybe it would work out great. Plus I work even closer to the hwy. When will you be this way again?

Thanks
Paula
