Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Of course it was still very wet but looked black or maybe dark blue-we'll have to see when we get home later this afternoon, maybe the 2nd pipped one will be out too!

We set 5 but 1 seemed iffy

Congrats on the new babies hatching. I only have a baby duck a few days old lol and some 4 week old key west chicks. I have 2 buff orps gone broody as of yesterday and they are just huge. Wish I had some good eggs to stick under those fluffy INCUBUTTERS

Most of my girls have quit laying in the heat except for the crazy Key West Hens that go broody one after another since I got them last November !! Least they are keeping us in small white eggs LOL.

I turned my bator off for a WHOLE DAY!!! Now it has 24 GCM, 3 BL/BCM, and 3 BCM I just could not NOT!

Good morning everyone! I posted in the emergencies section yesterday but have gotten no response. One of my lovely Delaware breeder hens has a broken wing. I have researched how to wrap it, etc. I have been using vetwrap and she somehow pulls it off the injured wing. The wing hangs so low she steps on it and keeps pulling on the joint. I wrap her and the next morning the wrap is all bunched up and not doing its job anymore. Any ideas on what to do? I thought of trying duct tape but not sure how that would come off when she heals...........Wondering if it will even heal at this point, I have been doing this for four days now.

LOL that's all I could think of when I looked at them sitting in the nest box with thier big ole fluffy butts and I was wishing I had something good for them to sit on. Maybe I will buy some more silkie eggs. I wish my silkies would start laying again. They have totally stopped. Now watch, when the weather cools off enough for all the other girls to start laying, the incubutters will quit incubutting!

I'm not sure either Zanna, I haven't had to deal with broken wings yet. I had one little phoenix hen go under a chain link kennel and get her wing skewered on the fence where it bends. She was stuck that way but she healed quickly once I got her off.

I would probably try an ace bandage and safety pin, duct tape it, or sew it on, maybe wrapping the wing and then wrapping it around her body as well to hold it all in tightly. Then I would put her in a very small pet carrier where she could barely turn around so she can't move around and loosen it up so easily. I hope someone on the emergency forums has a better idea that has some experience with it. I don't know if you could put a collar type thing on thier necks like you do with dogs to keep them from pulling stuff off...seems like chickens would go crazy with that.
