Oh, go babies go! I'm not going to hatch this fall.... I'm not going to hatch this fall....I'm not...well, maybe.

The Sedalia show is Oct 22. I'm going to drive down to my sister's place the night before, then will drive up together with my two sisters. Lord help Sedalia when all 3 of us girls show up together!

Gilavina-sure hope you can make it. Debbi-Hope you are up to it by then. I've got pretty bad arthritis, but if I use a cane I can paddle around "slowly" all day! I'll be looking for the redheads. As for me, I'm kind of hard to describe, but you can probably look for 3 old gals haveing WAY too much fun and doing an abundance of laughing!

I'm really hoping I can too....and hope Debbi can. I wonder who else might be coming from on here...maybe Kathyinmo? Sounds like you and your sisters have tons of fun together....good way to be!

i understand the stressing about keeping the right ones. How many Marans will you be holding onto then? I don't have a certain number I'm culling down to...just til I feel like I only have the best to offer from my breeding stock and what I hatched this year.
Can I ask why you are concerned about breeding the pullets back to Goliath? In line breeding that is common practice....
I too have a hen that is a lighter egg layer in my cuckoos. whenever I separate them to see which one is laying the lighter egg....I get ...No eggs. it drives me nuts. I will figure it out one of these days....yarg.

Well, since these pullets seem to be somewhat melanized, I was afraid that by breeding them back I would get even more of that. Since Fuzzy has excess coppering, I thought he might help balance it out. It would be my luck that I would end up with a bunch of "mossies." So far I have not had that problem with any of them.

For the broken wing you might try some "coaches tape" if the vetwrap doesn't stay put. The coach's tape is easier to remove and doesn't leave so much residue.

Thank you all, the coaches tape sounds like the next try. She actually looked better this morning and was holding the wing a little higher on her own. I think it needs some extra support for a couple of weeks though.

ahhh there's the part I wasn't understanding. I hope Fuzzy works out in getting you the color you need on your stock. Wouldn't you know it that the morning I have free to finally do some more culling on my birds....it pours and pours and pours this early am and the pen I wanted to sort turns into a mess. The part that bothers me is that my younguns will go out of their way to play in the puddles (hence my desperation to get new pens with solid roof cover built) They will almost jump up and down and splash each other...then run away from each other sqawking...then do it all over again til they are little muddy monsters. What turds

I'll just have to see if I can give it another try later this week. I bet we easily got about 2 inches

Haha my silkies love to play in the mud. You would think they were part waterfowl. I never knew Silkies loved water so much. They have so much feathering on thier feet it is really a disaster when they get muddy too. I think they just want baths so they can get blow dried!! They LOVE the blow dryer

We almost have a 2nd one out! Just got home and the 1st one looks to be black, the one working on zipping looks to be blue and is slowly working on getting out. The other 3 eggs can't see if something is happening.

Our chickens don't seem to like getting wet so they hang out inside the coop when it starts raining here!

yay! what's the progress on the babers now? What colors ya got drying off now? I'm living vicariously through your hatching!

We have 2 babies out, one looks black but might be dark blue the other is a pretty shade of blue. The other 3 eggs show no signs of hatching yet. I will get a picture tomorrow when we take the 2 babies out.

Thanks, we're thinking that these are the only ones that we will get, our hatches usually go like popcorn, when one starts the rest are not far behind.
