This looks more like a salmon - is it silver salmon perhaps?

If you are getting it out of another variety, you will have to cull any that come out with the Autosomal red and mahogany, etc for Silver Salmons and if they're gold too - you want a clearly salmon breast - she may have it, hard to tell from the pic?

I think I have 2 that may be silver salmon not golden salmon but from what I have read Silver is dominate over golden also. I have another picture of her also. I was leaning on the hen as silver but she is young and honestly dont know allot about this variety yet and not allot of reading out there for them.

I figured there would be allot of culling once they get to laying and I start hatching there baby's to get to were they are hatching out true consitantly. Any more info would be great on this type.

Hey Don - I don't know! I've often wondered how Mr. Stocker got them....but could be indeed! He had Wellies so?

Yes Silver is dominant, but females can carry only one, so your females are only what they are. They're silver or they're gold. Only males can carry 2 and be both.

I have a solid blue roo over back hens. The blue roo Im using know have some lightness in his hackles I dont like but I have a very pretty blue roo from same stock I plan to use also when he gets a little older, He is only 6 months know. Egg color not the best but in time I hope it will be better.

Don, is this how this color was created, by outcrossing to Welsummers?

Jeremy, Just to test the theory have thought about crossing the Wheaten and Welsummer. All the Golden Salmon I have ever seen pictures of had the Welsummer markings. Just like the Penne crosses no one will ever admit they have made these crosses. We sure no one thing and something was added to get the color. I just happen to believe they should stay within the breed when making these new colors. The French say when you go out of the breed a make crosses they are no longer Marans.

Thank you that is what I thought I was understanding on them. I believe the hens also have more golden salmon to them were the roo's dont but both have the salmon breast clearly marked. I have been reading all the marans club sites that have been talking about these just trying to do my homework on them. Would love to find that group also. Im on the marans chicken club were bev hangs out allot and keep reading back to find her talk more about them.
