Are you talking about pet Quakers or wild ones? lol. I have a couple parrots and little obnoxious jenday conure who is louder than the big parrots put together.

People and their birds!

My husband has a double yellow headed parrot. This bird talks, sings whistles and imitates EVERYTHING, including squeeky doors, burps, and answers phone quicker than anyone can say hello. He is constant entertainment for us. We just sold a beautiful sun conure. She made more noise than we could handle. It was impossible to talk on the phone with her around. Anytime she heard you talking she would start up and that little bird was LOUD!

I have more people wanting to buy marans than I have pullets I can sell. I may have to fire up the old incubator sooner than I had planned.

We ended up with the 2 babies, the other 3 eggs looked like they stopped somewhere around day 15 - 18 so not sure what went wrong but these 2 babies will help to see what the hens passed on and what the cockeral might be carrying as far as the comb genes. I will have to have DD and DH take pictures, as of this evening I am on crutches due to a bad sprain of my right ankle- torn ligaments earlier today when my ladder slid and I went down with it. Good thing it's a long weekend so by Tuesday I will hopefully be moving better

So sorry to hear about your ankle. Torn ligaments really suck! Been there. Hope you heal up quickly.

Thanks, today is a bit better, I have my aircast on and can walk slowly without crutches. I was able to get a couple of pictures that I will load up as soon as I make my way to the office downstairs. My laptop is ready to be picked up-just waiting to hear what time today so computer time is at a premium! I have my phone to use for now:).

Hi Susie,
I have the same problem. I can't hatch as many Marans as I have a call for. My hatches haven't been good on the BCM in the heat either & right now between the heat & the new move they are not even laying. When they were BigBoy must have been off his game or not interested in the heat because fertility was very low. I hope when they snap out of this I can get some more chicks going. I haven't stopped hatching but have been hatching different eggs. This morning I have 5 Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas chicks out running around in the hatcher they are from the blue egg laying trio I bought from Jeremy awhile back. I am tickled............I recently hatched about 140 A & M Texas Couturnix quail for a chicken lovin friend trying to start a quail business. What fun that was....They are delightful to watch & so full of energy & tiny, tiny, tiny........ I have some pure English Orps in the incubator & some Salmon Favorolles. I hope they hatch. I haven't gotten Wheaten Marans eggs since the hatch either except the one we found them eating the other day with a full feder right there in their pen. I have 3 different pens doing that since the move. What a bummer. I may have to learn to make egg rollout trays on nest boxes.....LOL

We usually cull (freezer camp) our bcm roosters but the few times I've felt like selling the extras, I pair them with a bcm pullet and tell people to take it or leave it ...they go as a pair. That way I can rehome the roo.
Then I show them some eggs from the flock both the very dark and the lighter (which is medium brown). After seeing the egg color, they have never left it lol.

Alot of people have wanted olive eggers and pure "blue egg laying" ameraucanas around here too. I hatched out 30 female olive eggers and kept about half of them this year. I now need to beef up my ameraucanas. I only have 2 females left.
We have sold chickens to people who came out to look at dh's car parts or to get baby rabbits lol. People are always really insane over the silkies but I don't have any of them that I want to sell yet and they always try to buy my big ole lavender orp rooster who is usually running around by himself with a bunch of babies he is watching. Silly boy, has been watching over the lone baby duck while the mother goes to bathe in the kiddie pool and run around wth the other ducks. He watched over the kittens too when we had some. Then he completely competed with the mothers over the olive egger babies that weren't even his.
He thinks he's mother goose lol.

I'm confused... I have a bcm about 6 weeks old. Not sure of the sex yet, but the biggest born that week. Beautiful. Healthy. Active. It's the only one I have with no tail. Not a hint of one. What's up with that?

Hi Karen! Yes, I highly recommend roll out trays. I have one roll out nest that I use for most of my layers, and I love it. I'm going to build roll out trays for all of the breeder pens once I get my new barn built, but that is going to be next year now.

flgardengirl-How funny about your big roo. He sounds like a keeper to me!

Kareninthesun-Many times the roosters are slower to get their tailfeathers in. Kind of like teenage kids. Sometimes the girls develop sooner.

BarnGoddess, I remembered your reply when I got this egg today, her second one:

I don't know if it shows on the picture but this one is definitely 2x darker than the other one in reality.
