Well, now he has something to crow about!

I guess he knew beforehand how special he is. He needs to stop being so special. And the best part is, DH finally got a dose of stardom. All the way home. First show he went to, since this was close to home. Claims he had fun. In between all the crowing in the car.

I hear that! I have been trying to scale down before winter as well with some layers that I don't particularly need, would like to keep them but just can't justify it......so I ran an add on craigslist and am trading 8 very young pullets or hens and a rooster of the persons choice for a nice big cord of firewood. I posted the ad yesterday and have been overwhelmed with responses. Hopefully it works out....I would like to get my bird numbers under 80 adults if I can for the winter.

Debbie ~Please PM me your source for these new eggies please.... I MUST HAVE MORE SPLASH!! Are they Copper Splash or Solid?
I am so glad you found some I know how hard you were looking sending safe shipping and great hatching vibes your way!!!!!

Oh Kim! I'd love to get down to 80 to hold over the winter. I seriously think I could do it if it was just my birds, but where I take care of my dad's bantam wyandottes too...I'm thinkin that's gonna be a bit hard. But one of my birds equals 4 of his right?

So maybe I'm good then

I got my new coronation trio all settled into their confinement pen until they are good to merge with my other stock. I'm happy with them...they are ginormous!! So as it stands, I'm gonna have flocks in the following to winter over after I finish culling: Coronation Sussex (still have some young ones growing out), Light Sussex, Lavender Silver Sussex pr, 2 flocks of birchen marans, cuckoo marans, BBS marans, BCM marans, and pairs in Blue Wyandottes, Columbian wyandottes, 4 partridge wyandottes, and my lone BLR pullet and 2 silver penciled wyandottes. Now that I'm lookin...It really is possible to get under 80 perhaps...

That is until I go to sedalia....I might be picking up a pair of silver sussex, a couple more coronation hens, and a pair of cream brabanters...if I'm lucky.

Congrats Stoopid!!

Thanks ladies - I'm trying to pare down to the bare minimum!
Just like everyone else - I want to keep the #s down for the winter and only keep the ones worth breeding in my pen. All the other girls will go to the egg laying pen.

#3 definitely had a tail once upon a time - it's coming back in!!
He's a chunk, too!

He has what I would call "sparsely" feathered legs - the feathers went all the way to the toenail, but were much shorter, smaller than the other boys, especially #2, who has really heavy feathering.
I put #3 in with the young hens and they picked them all off - ?? -

I don't know if you remember my other roo?

I would like to keep 3 of the 4 - 2 for BCM and 1 for a my layer flock.

I'll get some pics of my other girls tonight after work!
I always thought that girl was splash, until I put her with other splash and blues....
She's just so WHITE!

Here she is again:

This is a splash roo that just went to freezer camp - he also used to have HEAVY feathering on his legs and the young girls picked it off!

Gilavina - I nearly bought Coronation Sussex this summer.
You're right - they're HUGE and beautiful!!
Congrats!

Peach2U - congrats on your cochins! (they're LF, right?)
I have the bantam version in Mille Fleur color and just love them.
They are the SWEETEST things! Little lap birds!

Just love to watch them run around on their chicken business, too!

As for butchering - we have a guy that does them for $3/bird.
Totally worth it!!
