I would vote...definitely a cockerel. Hopefully that's not a bad thing as he looks good so far for just 6 weeks old!

Really? hmmm No not a bad thing.. it's my first marans so a cockerel is ok. It just acts so sweet and mild and .....henny. lol
I would love a big blue marans rooster. I have one 5 day old BCM chick.. .hope that one turns out to be a pullet. These are the only two marans I have managed to hatch all summer and won't be trying again for marans till next spring. Hope I managed to end up with a pair.

just going by hatching and watching my marans growing out...(hatched around 400 this year)....to me it presents as a cockerel. The marans are really sweet...especially if you spend time with them. I have taken to hatching some of them with some of my flightier breeds to grow up together and they seem to have a calming effect on the ones I hatch with them.

Vicki~ I like hatching the Marans with other breeds as well. They are so calm, I think it helps with other breeds too. I do find that when I raise my Welsummers alone they are a bit more timid than normal and normal being that they are usually raised with the Marans, who are always very friendly and inquisitive.
I must say that most of my Marans' personalities and friendliness factors (except Bill), honestly..... do not hold a candle to the ever OOBER & OVER friendly Delawares.

Now, don't know why this is, or if it means anything, but all of the females that I kept from both batches of Marans that I raised with both batches of Delawares I either hatched or that were shipped here are ever OOBER & OVER friendly. I like the outcome of raising the Del's and the Marans together.
Before the I got Delawares, I would have swore that there wasn't a friendlier bird than my most beloved Marans, but I am pretty sure I have changed my mind on that one.

huh....thats curious. i have seen more delawares poppin up here but never really heard of anyone saying anything about their temperament. The last thing I need is to add another breed.....I'm already eyeing another color variety in the sussex and a new breed.... arg....
