yeh me too. The first eggs she collected will be 10 days old tomorrow. I see another crappy hatch in my near future...if I even get them.

That is music to my ears that she ships chicks too!

and ohhhhh yes those BLR girls I have from her need the wide load signs...they are chunky and definitely have some junk in the trunk. I love that and would be very sad if they were anything else. I look at them and my big butted Marans and just sigh with utter happiness.

My Wys are molting so I'm not getting eggs right now.
I still think they need a lot of work though...trying to get consistent type,
good color, larger eggs...and trying to get rid of those dadgum split for single combs

You guys really should get chicks from Marquisella. One of the breeders I got my start
from had birds from her and the Foleys (not sure how far removed) and anything good
in mine are from the work these fine breeders have done. Hers are where I HOPE to
be with mine someday.

I know this is the Marans thread

Hi Karen! Sorry about your pullet, that is sad.

I don't believe that it is the breed that is not very heat tolerant, I think sometimes we just get some individual birds that are just not destined to make it. Sorry for your losses.

Yah, exactly why I wanted some of the birds from CP because I knew about the single split and was hoping for it to show up in the chicks that I hatched, but all 5 had peacomb. I can still get single combs but it will take awhile as the pea is dominant, but 2 of the girls are laying now so it shouldn't be long before I am popping those eggies in the 'bator.

you mean rosecomb? At least I hope so! I hope you have a good hatch! Just remember I want to see pics of these blue laced barnies when you get them going!! I almost got into Barnevelders, but the Sussex won out...but it doesn't mean I won't add them in at some point if they have beautiful coloring like i think they will.

I'm heading out for work here soon, but my friend was going to send me a pic of the brooder as it stands now before she does the rewiring. There is a possibility that she may be able to bring it along with her and drop by my place after they get done with an auto parts swap meet. I have a feeling its huge! She bought the brooder and will do the work and keep track of expenses and I'll pay in pullets for her laying pen! Talk about a deal!! I'm very excited!!!
