I only have her blue copper dad at the moment. I intended to order another batch of black copper chicks from the breeder I got the original birds from (Culpepper) in attempts to get a decent BCM male. Unless you have another suggestion??

White lobes.....On my way out to look at the GC again! LOL

LOTS of bird studying and RE-studying is required when Don takes the time to comment!!!

Totally off topic but I HAVE to comment: RanchoDelPolloLoco - I so TOTALLY voted for your avatar picture for the 2012 BYC calendar. Absolutely, hands down, my favourite out of ALL the entries. (And I submitted some!

Gosh I have 15 Exchequers from a breeder in Georgia that are about 6 weeks old & coming along nicely but I didn't realize that I would have to wait that long for eggs.....O h well their beauty makes up for it......LOL

Good for you. That egg is great. The girls from the eggs I got from you at the Stockton show are laying cute little pullet eggs & one of the cockerels looks pretty promising too. I had a customer following him around the other morning asking about him.....LOL

Well really it will not makes a difference with which male you use as long as it is not the Dad or a close relative of his. What causes this slipped wing is continual use of breeders that show the fault, if you keep using breeders with this fault it will get worse each year.

By using a male from a different line over this pullet you will be covering up the fault and it will be hiding there . Out of the new line male only keep the young fowl that do not show any of the wing fault Slip or Split. Breed one of the young males back to this pullet and only keep the the young that do not show this fault. One of my mentors suggested adding new blood once every five years and breeding it back out. After you get this fault under control you should use an outside male that is related to your fowl but is being breed by someone.

Some will say just dispose of the line you have and start over but I say you can make this work if you keep records and mark all chicks with toe punch or slit. Soon as the chicks are big enough wing band them and when they are adults put the permanent band on the leg. The line this pullet is from is too good to cull, as she has the good coloring and type that we want.

I eliminated this wing fault from my Buff Brahma bantam many year ago.

From here on out if you single mate until you eliminate the fault it will be much easier. If you had several pullets from a single mating you can pen mate them all as they are single mated.

Anyone feel free to ask question as I will help if possible. Sometimes I skip over thing that someone else might think is important.

This pullet would work with a splash male real well.
