Yeah...I did! I just finished reading it! Do you find the extras you give your birds like the kelp, flax seed and spices raise the price quite a bit in the bottom line of your feed bill? That stuff you get from that lady sounds awesome!

I've got some Ameraucanas with eyes like that so I'm curious to hear the response as well.

I have had a few Marans with eyes like this and it has always made me wonder and I was finally able to get a good photo showing it so I thought I would ask everyone. I have bred the Marans with this eye color to a bird that has the correct eye color and have seen good results so I don't worry too much about using the ones with eyes like this, but still it would be nice to know. I'm all into the eye thing and comb thing right now with my birds so I am trying to glean all I can. I read something about eye color being related to melanizers in the birds and wondered if this might have any relation. (I have found the article MATH ACE and will get it copied as soon as I can and get it too you

Yesterday I didn't have to work until a bit later in the day so I could take a bit more time outside and took some treats out to my oldest chicks from this year and I have to say that I was pretty surprised! The BCM girls I merged in with that oldest group are filling out and I've got some nice girls! I only have one that I know for sure is laying, but I just can't get over how much they've filled out and grown up while I've been so busy! Seeing them on the lawn with Gigantor and some of my splashers make a pretty pretty sight

The kelp I purchase in 50# bags as I use it on everything from house plants to the garden, so when I found that I could get it in a large quantity that was more bang for my buck thats what I started doing. It really does last a while as I only sprinkle so much each time I mix feed, it lasts a long time too as long as you can keep it dry. The flax is pretty spendy but not much is used, I purchase that at a place in Portland Oregon that my mom and dad go to to get gluten free flour for my dad, I can buy it and Tumeric and Cinnamon in bulk (Tumeric is very spendy when purchased in small quantities) and save some $$.

I find the bottom line on my feed bill is effected when the girls don't lay or are molting or I have too many extra cockerels...when they ain't puttin out the eggs or the roosters aren't in my freezer yet is when I cringe.
I am looking into buying feed by the ton as we have a grain terminal about 8 miles up the freeway and if I can figure out how to store it and feed it before it goes bad or find someone to go in halves, I will be doing that. I can get a ton of grains for $130.00 ........now that would make me very happy.

Gotta run for a while.....trading some birdies for firewood this morning and the guy is suppose to be here in 40 minutes. Lucky dude....he is getting 2 Marans (1 splash and 1 blue copper), 2 Wellies, 2 Dellies, 2 Olive eggers, 1 Blue Laced Red Wy pullet and a Blue Laced Red Wy roo and 2 Black Copper 1 year old hens I tossed in for delivering the wood. I'm going to trade chickens for firewood more often.

Nice! Lucky guy! Gotta love the bargaining power of chickens! My Dad lives up on the coast where few people keep chickens....he trades fresh eggs for tons of stuff!

haha....I know I NEED to get some more current photos! I grabbed my camera yesterday and tried to take pics, but the battery was too low to take some...so I figured I'd charge it but left my charger in my Uncle's truck when we went on the Junk Jaunt last weekend. He's promised he'd bring it down to me this weekend or the beginning of next week. I didn't realize how much I'd miss my camera until I can't take pics... yarg!

I think it is necessary every once and a while to have a day enjoying beauty and to slack off on whatever is on a to do list. That makes me sound like a slacker, but without those little time outs I'd be a nut!
