Ah, the dreams of a chicken addict! Gotta love'em! too funny! Me thinks if I was getting tons of dark eggs, I'd be putting them in the incubator asap...because I could justify turning it on then.

Haha I know it was a dream because, since it has been raining here a bunch the last week, egg laying has been at a minimum

It was finally sunny today and I saw Miss Sassy up on the patio checking out an old pet carrier. The lavender orp roo was with her. He went into the carrier and was clucking and fluffing up the pine litter for her and trying sweet talk her to come in there and lay an egg. I will have to check around the patio later and see if she laid one.

One of my experimental Olive egger pullets that resulted from an OE that I crossed back to my Marans roo from a super dark egg laid her first egg today!
It is so dark olive it almost looks brown..almost!

That is my experience as well.

Mine have only recently started getting oyster shell because I've had a problem with thin shelled eggs - and no blood spots since! So I certainly can't blame the oyster shells. My nest boxes are high up.

Well it the blue gene that is leaky and allows random darker feathers to show or the irredescent beetle sheen feathers to show...it's not a problem at all. I actually think it is pretty. Just posted the photo so that you could see that it happens quite frequently on the blues.

Debbi~ Wouldn't that be cool, a peacock blue Marans! That would be totally beautiful, however I don't think there is a way to truly get to it.

A person could just get a mating pair of Blue Impyans (spelling) that would take care of it. Ever seen one? THEY ARE GORGEOUS!!!!! Talk about Blue.

Are you talking about Impeyan Pheasants? I have seen those before- the person that DH purchased his Red Golden Pheasants from raises them- young pair I thinks goes for $300 something.

Moved my 4 baby cuckoo marans together in a pen today- all 4 are girls, it's amazing how big the 10 week olds are comapred to the 6 week olds

So that's the trick lol! I am fearing for some of my key west chickens that flew up into the tall pine tree to roost tonight. I went into the back to make sure everyone is locked up and heard at least 4 large owls! Darn,
I can't get those chickens down now and its already dark !!

Debbie I just bet you will get at least one splash roo! Got my fingers crossed for ya.
