Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Raven~ Sending lots of safe handling vibes to those eggs.

That was not my greatest hatch. But on a brighter note All but 1 of my eggs hatched!
10 prod reds and 4 rocks. I left 10 eggs in there last night so we will see what if anything happened over night. I only had 2 marans marked BC make it to lockdown, 1 was a dud I think and the other it is not looking good.... Sorry! I know you needed a roo.

Kim~ Where did you learn about the gruel? I've done google searches and byc searches I can't find any recipes about making gruel lol....
not trying to beat a dead horse.
My F1 blue cuckoo rooster loves cleaning neasting boxes for his hens. He is up there constantly groom the girls nests for them and trying to allure the girls by his nesting/grooming abilities.
in so proud of him. None of these other youngsters do this but him.

No worries on the roo. If you want any of these Dark Brahmas I will be glad to share. All my girls are on a rest but when I put them together again we will get you some more eggs to try! Late in the year, edge of molt, and losing my BCM roo were all odds set against you so you know I will make it right!

I was particularly interested in what he had to say about the feeding and care of chicks so I started following all of his threads and chatting with him. I am good on the Brahmas... Thanks! I have to go pick up a Leghorn roo and some Buff Orphingtons hens, I could get some more eggs.... I think I will wait till I get some from you and do them at the same time. He is just down the road so no biggie. I am done for this year on hatching... except for the others in the incubator due next sunday....... More Rocks! We are hopefully finishing by 10 new breeding pens this week and then things will calm down. Roos can be spread out and get them some girls.... finally! I will let you know if there are more, they sure are cute! The blue is so light it looks silver almost! I will get them out today and check them out
