Good Morning Friends!!

Debbi~ I certainly hope you get that heater today. Looks like winter is right around the corner. We got our first frost last night, 30 degrees out this morning and everything has the lovely icy glaze on it. We had to build a fire in the woodstove last night cause it was so burrrrrrrrrrry cold, good thing I traded me chooks for some firewood.

Barngoddess~ I agree with 1000%, chickens + yogurt = lots of laughs! Be sure to stand back Vicki!!!!

Jeremy~ I don't have anymore updated photos of Lil' Bill but I sure could get some for ya. Won't happen today as I have to go to work but I should be able to get you some tomorrow. He is growing into his new role as head of the flock very nicely. Treats his ladies good. His dad could use a little reminder course. Let Bill Sr. and his girls out a day ago for their turn to be out roaming where ever they are not suppose to be (

) and that onery Bill was chasing his girls down like I have never seen him do before.....I know he was just being frisky and sewing some oats, but I have not seen him quite that cantankerous before. He finally settled down after he tried woooing all the girls to no avail. Poor Bill.

Raven~ I can't wait to hear that you have them in your hot little hands and that they are all safe and sound. Can't wait for photos either!!!!

Good morning, peeps!

Well....I looked closely at the 14 hatchlings from my last hatch (they are now 5 or 6 weeks) and it appears that I have 12 cockerels. Sigh..................... the gals from this hatch were to be my "replacements" for my original gals, who will be 4 and 5 in the spring. Sigh. I hate that I need to get some fresh gals in, but they're simply not laying as well as they once did. I DO have one gal laying still - just one. She's my only pure Davis gal left, and she's been laying since mid-February - even through this last molt (which she's not quite done with yet), and her eggs haven't gotten darker than a 5. Pretty dang good for a "coming" 5-year old! I guess that's why I haven't wanted to replace her. Sigh.

But, I did put another 8 eggs in the bator of just hers after this last hatch, and none of them developed. Ruh-Roh...guess she's just getting too old to breed from. Triple sigh..........

Hopefully, Cuckoo Marans, BCMs, and B/B Ameraucanas. That's the plan at this point, at any rate!

I just love my Blue Ameraucanans they don't like the summer heat here and are stingy layers sometimes but both the males and females are the friendliest birds I have. They truly were little lap dogs in another life. If they can't get on my lap they fly up on my shoulders. The girls have a really raucous voice and will whine really loudly if they think they've been wronged or they want something LOL! I'm fixing to hatch some more real soon because I only have 2 girls and 4 roos LOL!

Where did you get your cuckoo eggs? Are they silver cuckoo?

I have some B/B/S Ameraucanas already and I absolutely ADORE them. I even kept a Blue roo with leakage just because his personality is so fabulous. He is a total romeo - always prepping the nest boxes for the ladies. They love him too! All my pullets but one ARE lap dogs in THIS life. Friendliest chickens I've ever encountered. My birds are on the small size, however, and need much improvement in the egg colour department and egg size. The B/B Ameraucana eggs I'm getting are coming from pips&peeps so I have high hopes although these eggs will have travelled a distance and spent some time in less than ideal circumstances so it will be interesting to see if I can get anything to hatch.

My (French) Cuckoo Marans are coming from Stellar Game Birds. I believe they are silver and very dark eggs, Davis lines. (In fact, I believe Bev herself is going to be bringing the eggs for me.) The eggs are entered at Crossroads so again, might be a trick to get them to hatch!! (She's throwing in some Black Coppers just in case but again, everything is travelling and will have a bit of a shelf life.)

Rest assured, I'll keep you posted!!

Nice color for Birchen I think. They were very well packed and the box was clean clean so
