I plan on making a supply run to lincoln today for things I usually need for them and to pick up some of my other ingredients. I'll write down everything I add and approx. amounts and share if it goes well! ok?

I'm doing the search right now to get a feel. Share if it doesn't work too. Hey have you picked a roo yet?

The sun and shades are causing a problem. So here is a close up of LaMars feather in the shade and a dappled shade farther out. As well as a shade far shot of Mammie. BTW my goal with these two was to have blue copper this spring. And work on correcting the standard traits they are lacking. Also he will be over my EE green eggers. I want dark brown and olive eggers. The RIR and Golden comets are just filling in the ranks for eggs till I get to my goal. My flock is going to be 6 shy in 1 week. Six Ameraucana's are not laying. I made the mistake of buying them this summer. I was told they where 1 year old. They where bald and living with 64 roosters. I gave them time to heal 2 months. They have been fully feathers and fat now but no eggs from them :-( My rooster has nothing to do with them. So 4 months of feed and care guess It's freezer camp time. Oh well more room for Marans!

I will for sure...I'm pretty good at these kinds of experiments...so it should just be a matter of figuring out the amount of binder and which one I'll use. Which reminds me...I was reading online that one of the binders for the commercial blocks is PVA glue...which I do NOT want my birds eating...I use that kind of glue for my bookbinding and I can't imagine what it would do to the craws and other inner workings of chickens longterm or even if one particularly gorged themselves...I saw someone mention it too on the thread I found with the recipes.

Anyways...several people mentioned Molasses...what do you guys think about Molasses as part of the binding agent? It wouldn't be much because I would only use it as a small part of it, but I'm leaning more towards some of the other more grain based binders.... what the heck? I'm having deep thoughts about baking for my chickens....

Good thing you guys understand hahahahaha

See what a person misses when the broodies raise the chickies.....I want some babies in the house with me so I can play with them!!!!!!!!! (ok..I'm done tossing a fit now about no babies in the house

)
Seriously though....need new photos of the little light colored one if you can, please. The photo you have leaves a very yellow cast from the lighting. Sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see this little cutie again.

oh...I got distracted by the recipe stuff...I plan on looking over all the chicks really closely today as this is my only day off between this week and next week when I will be showing. The feather legged boy is looking good....now just to see what the younger ones are lookin like to see if that other older cockerel would do well to go and not affect my breeding program too much. If he can go...there are three girls his same age that he's grown up with...would you want them so they all get along already? They are about 3 months...well...maybe three and a half..I'd have to look at my notes to make sure how old they are.

No kidding....people were talking about the fact that the flock blocks are so hard and couldn't figure out why...well...ding, ding, ding!! Not for me.

Any thoughts on the Molasses? I've never given anything to them with molasses in it, so don't know if there are good or bad points to it.

Thanks for posting more photos.
Normally Splash birds have the "Splash" effect all over them and not just in the hackle, back and saddle area. Him being what appears to me as completely white on the rest of his body leaves me wondering, I have not seen that before on a Splash bird. Hopefully more folks come by and give their opinions.

HOLY CRAP! I buy (USED TO!!) Flock Blocks for my gals every winter & have recommended them to hundreds of peeps!

Molasses has laxative effects, but I would think that using just a small amount would be fine. If you would post your "final" recipe when you're there, I would love to see it!
