Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I put my eggs into the incubator tonight. 14 eggs, 7 Black Copper Marans and 7 Olive Eggers.

Before I set them I looked inside with my nice new candeler. I could see inside at least a little on all of them, some better than others. The eggs looked really interesting glowing from the inside while the light was on them.

Size wise I like the one on the right , which happens to have the most copper coloring!Looks like she could be a definite keeper. The one to the left only appears to have a very few copper feathers coming.

I also have a couple of hens that are almost all black, although they are young. So waiting to see how the coloring comes.

Thanks Dave, that would be "Pretty", and she does live up to her name. She is also quite the personality as well. The one on the left actually does have about the same amount of copper, must've been the lighting. The one in the back is the one with the least amount, but it seems to be coming in more everyday. They seem to change on almost a daily basis at this age, and at 11 weeks, they have a lot more growing to do. The roo in the bunch is really starting to color in nicely, too bad he's deformed.

The newest clutch of 5 is already 10 days old, and feathers are coming in strong! I can already see a definate roo in the mix, and possibly one more. They are looking pretty good so far, hope I get lots of color with these little guys!

Hmm not sure if I saw that one, I seen one yesterday that was selling BCM eggs and the roo in their pic was a Wheaten! There is also one on there and their roo has yellow legs!

I go nuts watching people bid on those eggs! Seemingly having no clue as to what they are buying!

Yes, that's probably the same one. He was also using hijacked pictures too. I guess technically it was a Wheaton, but even classified as such, was nowhere near the proper coloring. Unbelievable!

had to tell someone who would be happy for me, i found someone locally(within 100 miles) that is willing to sell me some hatching eggs from her wheaten marans. I'm so excited because out of the 2 batches of shipped eggs i have incubated this summer (30 eggs) only one hatched. so hopeing that i have better luck with local eggs and i get some girls because of course the one that did hatch is a roo. but a cutie none the less.
