Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Yes they look like personal emails and in the subject it may be from [MaransChickClubUSA] which I believe is the forum that is open to everyone and others subject will be from [Marans_Chicken_Club] which is for paid members and they almost always have a some sort or title in the subject line, such as one of the newest ones to come in this morning is about the Ohio Nationals. You can pick and choose which ever one interests you to read or read them all, but I don't think they have a function that will suscribe you to one topic or thread like BYC does.

Nope, it's the other way around - "chicken_Club" is the free one, and CHICK club is the paid one.

See what I know...

I am a member there as well and I have everything come to me in email form, my inbox always has mail and I always have something to catch up on. The Yahoo site for me is not as easy to navigate, but having all the announcements come via email is totally user friendly for me.

The club meeting on Saturday night was invaluable. MUCH is discussed in person that would never be posted on a board. Plus, I can't stress enough - the demonstration Edgar Mongold and Ben Porter gave at Crossroads using live birds was invaluable - not to mention, having all the best Marans breeders in the US around to comment as well. And even those that saw it still have questions!!!!

(It was nice to see the breeders of the winning birds asking questions and taking advice from Edgar on how to improve the birds.)

Ditto! I think the thing is to just try to keep up. (I emphasize "try".)

I suspect, as the new varieties are presented & approved, there will be more & more activity to keep up with!

I don't recall ever having to wait for it to post... Is that possibly a dial up internet problem? My posts usually pop right up on the yahoo site. I didn't recall there being EDITING. This site has some auto edit. Ya know... the thing to do is ask on that site how to navigate. Good luck...

Show us some pics! And welcome to the very challenging world of BCM's. There is also a thread on the SOP, I just found out about it, just go to the search on top, type in "Marans SOP", interesting talk.
I belong to MCCA, and am still confused. A pic will get you an answer. I had a boy, was ready for the freezer...I listened to everyone here, and he got Best of breed last show. And there were 6 other birds, so it was worth it! Roberta

Here's some pics. The 1st and 2nd are of my hens that do have the copper and the 3rd and 4th are of my hens that don't.

Well, the first one to me look more like a copper blue - she looks like her breast is very dark blue, as I can see lacing. The copper in her hackles is appropriate for the breed, though she does not have very good type.

The solid black is more than likely a black copper, as the solid blacks are hard to find (she would be a black copper but the copper is "covered up" which is called overmelanised - but, she'd be carrying the copper gene). She would be disqualified due to her white lobes.

But, if you're just looking for some pretty eggs....they'll probably do the job for you!

Jan, was referring to their Yahoo site. You run in a different crowd than I do. I posted some stuff that was acceptable and some that was not so I no longer belong. They did not trust what I would say.

2-3-4 female are something that would produce the carnation Comb.
