Hey how are the girls laying??? Mine lay great for a couple weeks, then BAMM....nothing for several days. I have only been able to deliver eating eggs to my customers once a month for the last couple months...it totally stinks out loud.

I'm feeding the higher % food from Dells that you told me you use....and a few zuchinni & summer squash. Dolly Parton is the only bird that is laying now.

He may not be the hunk just yet, but he's the only blue roo I have.

This is the first time I've been able to get any decent shots of him and would like opinions, please. At 11-12 weeks old I'm not in love with him yet, so you can fire away.

I am just getting started in the chicken world but love my Silkies, Millies, Bantam Cochins and am looking forward to adding Blue Orps and Marans..I think the Marans are so beautiful and the egg color is the most interesting. I am hatching out some blue now so wish me luck...pics as soon as the little ones arrive!

Probably because over the years and a bunch of birds later, you've developed an "eye" or sixth sense for good birds. Again, fine looking Splash!

Anyone out there with a handsome Blue Copper? So I know what to look for as I am shopping around for Roos for my two lonely ladies. I need to make sure I get get my girls a nice a handsome Roo.

Keep those photos rolling.

Heres a shot of my big blue (BCM)hen :-)

haha probably doesn't hurt that I've been around birds since i was a kid.
On that cuckoo boy...how old is he? the one thing about him is that he has white tail feathers...its a pretty common problem, but you will want to breed away from that. If possible, getting a roo with no white feathers in his tail is optimal...but again, it depends upon your end goal with the Marans and etc.

Good eye :-) I've been keeping my eye on it too. He is a young roo, less than a year so I am hoping it will moult out (fingers crossed). The other thing about that feather is that its not entirely white. The base is faded cuckoo pattern then it gets darker on the tip???

Anyways, my fingers, toes, legs and arms are crossed......which is making it difficult to type :-)

haha too funny! that might make doing daily tasks kind of hard then eh?

I've had cuckoo boys develop the same thing. I have been fortunate to be able to cull them and work with ones that haven't gotten the white in their tail feathers. If he is getting near molt, it could be possible it is from that...but to find out for sure really its a waiting game

The Marans sure do require the patience...sigh...
