Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Ok, guess I'll try this thread..there are a lot of posts! I am hatching some Blue Birchen Marans. Does anyone remember seeing or even posting pictures of this breed on this thread? I've seen pictures of the rooster, but not of a hen yet. Thanks!

Cynthia, I think there is a separate thread for them, let me check....
Oops, that was Wheaten.... Pink may know, til then, welcome to the thread!

Thanks, have been looking through the thread...saw that Bev Davis was chatting a bit in the beginning. These are supposed to be Bev Davis lines.

Vicki has posted pics of hers on here a couple of times. They are very striking! Maybe she will chime in and post a link or more pics......

Just be careful with that sales pitch. I thought I was getting good stock when that line was used on me.
Maybe Bev had something to do with that bird generations ago, but they probably have been cross bred with poor stock, or who knows what, until recently.
That's why we are all here, trying to sort out the unscrupulus breeding, ie, Pendenesca. That is why the term "carnation comb" has been brought up so many times.
Your head will spin, like mine. We will sort it all out, and have great birds in the future.
Good luck with your babies! Roberta

I use pine shavings in my compost pile all the time. It all goes on the garden and on my ornamental plants. I also use lots of bunny poo and started a vermicompost bin under one of my rabbit cages last spring. I've had no problems with the pine shavings.

Flowering plants love it

I just found the darkest 'olive egg' ever from one of my new OE layers. She has a peacomb but her egg is so dark it looks olive in certain light and very dark brown in another light. I can't decide which it is lol.
