Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Morning Everyone!

Had a great day yesterday and had a great hatch with the Birchen babies. 4 Black and 3 Blue. Had to help the last 2 little shrink wrapped chickies out. Photos soon.

No pink food yesterday, which was really a switch because normally we serve up something pink, but it just didn't happen.

Thanks for coming up and sharing in the madness with us Mel. You better have put it on your calendar for next year.

I wish you would have taken some of the squash home with you Mel.....I think only Rick, you, me and my son are theonly ones that ate any of it. I have tons of it left. I did save the seeds like Debbi suggested so you can plant some in your garden next year.

My dear mommy made a special pink pickle for the game this year......it would have stuck out like a sore thumb on anyone of my 3 pink Christmas trees if we would have went with the green one she made first.

The paint booth is a very good idea. I like how you think lady!

One of my sisters (1 of the 2 that couldn't make it yesterday

) was left here alone for a few hours about 8 years ago while the rest of us all ran to town......I came home to a 3 toned pink polka dotted front door. I loved it sooooo much, I left it.

Pink....it's just a happy thang 'round here!

Would be in chicken heaven if there were some sort of pink Marans variety.

After a more in depth and delightful time studying the chicks this morning, I believe I was wrong on the colors.

I believe there may only be one that MIGHT and thats a big MIGHT, that is possibly blue, maybe, but probably not.

Tell me what you think...any blues?

They sure are a different tone of black then Black Coppers....they have yellowish brownish undertone, hard to explain.

All have pretty decent feathered outer toes and shanks. Will be interesting to see how the leg feathering remains as they grow. I have noticed sometimes they may have nice downy shank stuff at hatch, but when they start feathering out that the some of them can be a little lighter feathered shanked than expected.

Going to wake them up now and get some photo's.

#7's photo will have to wait a bit, going to give this one a little longer to rest. This was the last one to hatch late last night and was a little weak in the neck. I have given it vitamins and it seems to be doing better and is lifting its head good now.

Probably no blues... stinks!
