Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Nope! We were supposed to, but it went to the north. Guess you got it instead?

Supposed to be in the mid 30s-40s this weekend. Got to get these chicks out of my house! Will do some more intigrating today, then put them in a crate together at night inside the coop. Clyde may have a pullet or two to cuddle with in his pen, he is so good with the babies! The little black cockerel is a real snot! The first day I let them into the run, he went right up to, the WRONG GIRL, Miss Bossy Flossy, and flared his hackles at her and gave her a good peck!

Wrong move on his part, and she proceeded to wail the tar out of him!

He is going to be a stunning boy when grown...sans the stupid comb.

And to Don, and Wynette- Sorry about not getting more pictures in on the faults.
I promise to go full speed after the holidaze.
I will admit, as I think most of us here, aren't too intested in documenting the ugly.
And right now, am a little busy right now.

But, by documenting the ugly, that's how you get to the pretty! If people don't know what to avoid, the pretty will take a loooong time to get to!

yeah...must have gotten your snow indeed...with the rain then snow from the other day there is a thick sheet of ice most places. Then add the snow from last night and it is like a skating rink

I've gotta move birds too. My birds I won at the show are finally done with quarantine and my cuckoo chicks have to go outside too. Gotta move some more birds from the south grow out pens. Should be interesting with as slippery as it is out there, but needs to get done. I also want to try for some more photos if I can pull it off.
Did you see that birchen boy I posted the other day? Color is improving eh? I'm so excited!

You be careful on that darned ice! That's a real good way to wrench your back. Yes! I saw your boy, his coloring looks great!

x2! Its making me wish in some cases I had taken more photos of birds I don't keep...I usually cull as soon as I see something I don't like, so a lot of times they don't last too long around here. I'll try to be more mindful of taking photos of things I find to share, particularly if there are things that are specific to the birchens.

Atta girl. One good fall could lay you up for a while. Last winter, my friend would call me every morning to make sure I made it in from the coop. Then she'd call me again at night after I put the chickens up. Bless her heart, and I really do appreciate it! If I fell out here, it could be days or longer till someone noticed. She was worried about me falling with my bad hip and knees. I know my limitations and I take it really slowly. She, on the otherhand, ended up falling three times last year! Luckily, she has family and close neighbors.

I'm really glad that you have a friend down by you that does that for you! I know if i don't see you on here for a day or so, I start wondering... I admit...i will check the weather down your way to see if you have storms or etc. Can't help it...I worry about people I like

I went out to check on the animals and fill up the feeders and water...its not too bad out there...its 22* out...and the sad thing is that after the really cold temps over the last week or so, it actually feels really nice out, I wore a sweatshirt and was comfortable. Its crazy how fast you can adjust to cold. Having said that, I would not mind at all if the weather decides to cooperate and give us a mild winter. I know I would really really appreciate it.

Hey...thinkin on whether you will be getting some more stock in the spring? like eggs or chicks etc?
