Hi Debbi,

Just to set the record straight, my black copper roo and hens are NOT from that line

totally different seller/breeder.

That's a good thing! That said, make sure to check all of your bird's combs anyway. With as small of a gene pool that we have here in the USA, I'm sure they are very well spread out, and in virtually every line now. I have found that most people either don't know what these combs are, or don't want to admit to having the problem.

sounds good Debbi!

I usually try to integrate my birds at night....works pretty well for me. But then again, most of my birds are pretty laid back. I merged two pens today of cuckoos and some birchen girls just for the winter months and they didn't really seem to care. Two girls squabbled a bit, then poof, over.

Who knows....? Maybe my birds are just lazy hahaha

One of the little cockerels made a swipe at Clyde. All he did was the drop wing dance all around him. Guess that was enough to convince the young one, he stayed away from Clyde after that!

Night is not good for me, so they will have to do it in the daylight hours.

yeah...I luck out with having a smaller place and two sets of back yard lights....It might as well be daytime if I have both of them on...especially if I'm using the barn lights too haha

Yeah Randy, same way here. Seems the older hens have seen this all before, so they are sure of themselves, and don't bully so much. It's the younger hens and pullets, that are lower on the pecking order that are the most ruthless. It's like each generation remembers what they had to go through, and now it's their turn to be the big bully! Seems too, that they are harder on the males. Maybe they know what's coming later from them, so they are getting their digs in now??

BG -

Very pretty egg color. Sometimes i cant tell if I prefer the Matte finish or the Gloss finish on the eggs :)

IMO - Your young Roo is very nice looking. From what I can make out of the photo...i like his size and height. I like my Marans to be a little bigger
