Do it while and when you can. I'd need physical therapy for a month if I tried to lay a floor these days!! I used to love to cut my own firewood. Take my time, cut it, split it, load it, drive home, and unload it and stack it. Women around here HATED me for that!! Their hubbys would all say, "well darn, if SHE can do it..."

To me, it got me outside, by myself to think and just enjoy nature, and was darned good exercise!

If you can cook & clean, why do you want a full-time night woman?

Women are a lot like fancy cars...they are a lot cheaper to rent than they are to own. Now, I'm sure that comment will have me in everybodys' good graces!

But others on this thread have commented on too much copper color on the breasts of the other two hens. So now I'm in a pickle, don't have time or resources right now to start over. Would it be reasonable to raise some of the chicks from the other two hens and see what they look like after a few months? Or, I do have the one splash hen in with my black coppers. I should get blues from her. She is from the same bloodline as the copper-breasted hens, but also 'supposedly' from a Bev Davis hen, so I would think good genes there. And the black coppers look good. I raised 10 roos from the eggs I hatched and had a hard time choosing, most of them were nice. A rare white feather here and there on the feet. Opinions on starting my blue copper line from these? Sounds like you are advising to not use that KY breeder's hen for breeding at all, no exception? Thank you, I have so much to learn!


Sorry Marcy, we tend to get sidetracked here from time to time! It's part of the fun of this thread. Anyway, yes, you can breed the BCM roo to the Splash hen and get 100% blues. Just make sure you are doing it with two birds that will compliment each other, with as few faults as possible. I have a young Splash pullet now that I will be putting in with a BCM male for all blues.
