Rockin' deal on the feed.
Been searching for someone to go in on a ton of feed with me...but no one I know can feed it fast enough or store a half ton at one time. Bummer to 'cause I can get a ton for $130.00.

That is a great price, wish you were closer. I go through a ton every two weeks.

Walt

I wish we were closer too Walt...we could certainly save each other some $$ on our feed bill if we were. Atleast the price of feed at the farm store here didn't go up again in the last 2 weeks. Feed in the last 4 months or so has gone up $5.00 a bag here and that really puts a dent in things when the girls aren't laying to help offset some of the cost with their eating eggs.

You mean your grandkids?? No, but it's nice today, so will try to get some. Something wonky has happened to my camera, it won't upload the pics like it used to. This has happened before when Windows updated.

I found a way to get them on, but it's a PIA and in a whole different file. Worked on it yesterday to no avail...

Yup...them be the ones I'm thinkin 'bout.

That's what I thought! Ok, will get some pics today. Your kids are just now starting their adult molt, great timing, eh??

So, Mr. Myron is sporting a lovely, white, tired feather in the middle of his tail. I used to freak when I saw these come on, but have learned that that is what they do right before they fall out. Every roo here does the same thing, and right now it's Pip and Myron. Just looked up their hatch date, and realized they were born on my Granddaughter's birthday! 3/14/11, so they are just 9 months old.

Morning everyone- got 1 to 2 inches of snow last night so DH is out plowing and of course that puts us behind in getting our work garage organized and ready for snow LOL but the babies are clean and in a bigger pen! Have to go and start moving stuff around myself to see if I can get some of it done. Have a ton of feed to unload off our enclosed trailer got it for $1 per 10 pound bag!!!!

How did you score a deal like that? I can store a ton.... about a month or so ago I got 1000 lbs and it is almost all gone.... just bought another 300 lbs to hold us over. That was just pullet starter and scratch AND I add about 40% spent grains so 4-5 bags of feed with barley and scratch and calcium fills 2 55 gal barrels.

Just a side note... I just picked up some chickens and 3 are RIR's. She said they hatched in July. I also got some month olds from her in Aug (probably the same hatch don't yeah think? Same breed BTW) My birds on this feed are 3x's the size of the birds I just got. Mine are already starting to lay too. Makes me really think reg feed is just not enough protein. I didn't know that my birds were doing better than other birds their age. I didn't have a reference till now. In fact these pullets are about the same size as my chicks I hatched in September.

I put some business cards in a local family owned fried chicken restuarant and I got a cold call from a man who picked one of them up letting me know of his business and his bulk feed prices. We went and checked it out and it makes me wish that I could feed a full ton, but since I downsized a couple months ago it would go bad before I could use it all.

Yes, the feeds don't supply enough quality protein these days. Or high enough content. I was feeding Game Bird breeder, but for some reason, the feed stores around here seem to have a hard time getting it on a regular basis.

I used to feed BOSS too, but when it jumped to $39.00/50#, ah er, NO WAY!! Corn seems to be coming down a wee bit here, and Chick Grower has too, just a smidge. I've been mixing the grower and layer and corn to my feed lately, they don't get the corn in the summer. I also add some high protein dog food to the mix, and they are really starting to fill out! I still haven't gotten around to getting the Mealworm plantation set up, need to do that. Hmm, that may be my Christmas project!

You posted while I was typing! No I live up near Bellingham. At $18 for a 50# bag I need to find a better deal. I have room to store feed, just curious what his bulk feed comes in? I currently store all my feed in 32 gallon plastic garbage cans.
