Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I appreciate all the work you did to take all these photos. Unfortunately, there is very little that can be evaluated in these poses.
You have really nice head shots and shank shots. Also, we can get a really good overview of the bird's coloring.
However, these are the icing on the cake aspects of the bird. MOST of the points, MOST of the value in judging, will come from the BODY in a natural pose.

The fifth photo ( it is in the Yellow band sectio, BUT judging by the comb it is NOT the yellow band bird) indicates that the cockerel has a white feather issue in the ear tufts and face feathers.
It could be just the light, BUT you might want to check it out

Hi Slick! Merry Christmas!

I would only keep the cockerel with the yellow band. He is my favorite.

OK PINK, Tell me WHY the yellow band? What do you see in the others that make him your favorite.
SLICK - - is that OK with you if Pink explains MORE ? ? ? ?

I understand and will see what I can do to remedy that. Too many neighborhood dogs around today to let them free range. I've gone back and the number sequences of the pictures are correct for the birds, but I do see the difference you're pointing out. ??? I'll be rechecking the white on the face. Gotta think it's the light because some of the hackles are boardering too dark and they don't appear that way in those pictures.

I am curious why ONLY the yellow?

He has a good head shape.
He has good eye color.
He has what looks to be good ear covert color.
He has nice copper color.
He has a nice comb.
I like his leg color.
Good shank feathering.
Nice white toe nails.
Looks like he has a good length on his back.
I can't make out the tail to well so didn't factor that in.
Looks as though he is going to be a good bodied bird.
And he has good deep black color and undercolor.
ETA: I forgot to mention his wing carriage is also nice.

Thanks, Pink! I'll absorb that into my small brain. The blue banded bird has one white toe feather, which is a fairly new development. Are these something that will molt out?
