and did you say he was or wasn't from the birds you thought might throw birchen?

He is pure Davis and from one of the BC hens from Florida (I told Debbi yesterday I was clueless on who his mother was but looked in my notebook and it is a BCM just don't know which one, didn't mark it down

), and Gnarles. I got a Splash Birchen from Bill in one of my late hatches last year. This is the first one to pop up like this from the Davis birds.

were you plannin to try and test mate him?

Can't say I care for his comb, looks highly suspect to me.... Ok, we were typing at the same time!

Debbi & Vicki~ Don't know what I am going to do with him.
Would have to house him for another 6 months before I could test him on the Birchen girls and then I would just be perpetuating the comb thing, and the fluff, and the white tail feather.....though I think it would be very interesting to see what becomes of him.

Pretty!! My neighbor has some very loudly colored boys over there, nice conformation too. one of my all time favorite horses, was a strawberry roan appy mare that me and a friend rescued from some idiot yahoo. She was abused and nearly starved to death. She never did get over her fears, and if you put a timid rider on her, she would spazz out. I never had a problem with her, I guess because she felt I was in charge, so she left the worrying up to me. I could take her anywhere, but anyone else on her, she would spook at falling leaves, squirrels barking, other horses sneezing, etc. She was so pretty, I wouldn't mind getting my mules in that color either!

occasionally I will run across a crazy marked bird for whatever reason and get attached and just have to see what happens if I test mate them. I think it might just be part of the wonder of raising them.

that reminds me of the last sale I went to, where someone brought in some horses and mules and they broke my heart. You could tell they couldn't afford to feed them, but man...if I could I would have brought them home with me. I just don't have the space for them yet

those mules were like skeletons with skin
