Nuff said! I'll point 7 of mine towards VA tomorrow! Put on their little back packs and sneakers, and they should be there in a month or so!

Tell them to head for the glow on the horizon... Hubby installed lights in the laying barn, I swear you can see our place on satellite photos!

I am new to posting...hope this is the way to jump in.

Hi, all. Well after months of watching and learning at BYC, we went to an auction and got 3 large Cuckoo Maran hens. We've never had chickens before, but love them already. Question. Since we really don't know the age (look to be the same) how long before they adjust and start laying? Realize we took a risk getting grown birds, but really didn't want the "baby phase" ...and wanted to be sure to get hens. Set up a nice home for them....now the wait begins! Thanks. Any input welcome!

Will do! Wish I had a handy man around here, sometimes. Then I stop and think of all the training involved...Shouldn't be too hard, hmmm:

"Come!", "Sit" (while listening to what I want) "Work", "Come eat" (yes, I will feed him well), "Go home!"

If only it were that easy...

Posting pics would be a good way to start.. I don't know how many posts you have, but you have to a few posts before BYC allows you to upload photos and also tomorrow they are switching over the website and will probably be down for a while... but photos I think will be the best way for us to maybe give you a hand with what you have!

I am right there with you Debbi! I have one Lav or Lav Split AM that has pipped! I think there are 22 eggs in there but 3 I don't think are any good.

On another note got my flexwatt

Hard to say anything about when they will lay if you don't know how old they are. Were they sold as pullets (under 1 year), or hens (one year and older)? Usually, my birds here start to lay between 20-26 weeks old. If they are new to you and their surroundings, depending on how nervous they are, it may take them a couple of weeks to settle down. Did the seller say they were laying already? Pictures would be most helpful, besides, we love to see pics! Congrats on your new birds!!
