Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Ok if anybody knows how to turn off the ads I would like to know. I didn't know that you could turn them off.... no biggie but since I pay for it I would like to use it.

GFM/PPM can turn them off (i.e. YOU!) Click on your "My Profile" tab then "edit account details". Scroll down to the bottom and you can turn off advertising. A HUGE reason to go for the GFM/PPM!!!

I'm gonna definitely vote its now a Dwayne as well. If that's a girl, its the butchest girl Marans I've seen

I like the looks of him a lot tho. Is he from true solid blue stock or is he from blue copper stock?

LOL, my two other Marans are wheaten and a few weeks older than "Dixie/Dwayne" - their combs/wattles are not nearly as large as this guy's (and besides, other people here told me they were girls) is getting. The bad thing is I can't have roos but with his fused toes I don't expect anyone would want him for breeding. I don't know about his background but could check with the breeder I got him from.

Nothing happens when you hover over it but if you right mouse click on it, "copy" should be an option.

Well yes, copy is an option, what it doesn't give me is a large pic or thumbnail option. When I loaded the pic originally, it was the "message board" size, now it is 1/4 the size?? See the pic I posted some posts back of my roo Clyde. Funny thing was, I was going to purchase a Golden Feather membership this week...glad I didn't now. May change my mind as I get more used to this new format, but not if it doesn't get faster and easier. I see the polls have been shut down now as well? I'm quite sure the crew put a whole bunch of thought and work into this new format, but they evidently didn't think at all about older users, or those on dial-up. YES! We are still many!! Either due to remote locations, or limited budgets, or in my case both! i am sad to think that I now cannot talk to my BYC friends in a quick and easy manner. Maybe they could keep a beta session for us old fogies on dial-up?? I just don't see this one working any better for me down the road...it is slower than me!

Debbi, they really DID think about the old folks. Even invited a bunch of us old-timers to try out the new format for weeks before they made it public - and we bitched plenty. The dialup thing is a problem and something they are trying to deal with.

The only advice I can come up with for the pics, click on it until it gets as big as you can get it to be and then, right click and copy that one. I don't know about the "polls" but I do know they are still trying to get everything operational and, I'm hoping, speed will improve when things smooth out as well - but in my experience - every time computers and operating systems "upgrade" things get worse for users of older browsers and those on dialup - regardless of their age!!!!

Hang in there!

Hang in there!

Hmmm, it must've been only the paying customers then, cause I didn't get any invite? I highly doubt the dial-up thing will be addressed. Heck, when I bought this new computer, I had NO clue it did not even have an internal modem! When I called Dell to find out WTH??, they told me, "no one has dial-up any more!" ??????? So I then had to go out an buy an external modem, that I have now had to replace 5 times!! That's at 50 bucks a pop, for the first one, but none of them have lasted the year they are warrantied for, so I've gotten the other 4 for free...plus weeks of down time. Now don't get me wrong, with the way this place was expanding by the day, I can see why the need for the upgrade. BUT, they should've ironed out a whole bunch more before it ever launched, and it should've been made EASIER AND FASTER, not harder and slower! I'm not totally internet ignorant, been teaching myself for years now, and I'm not afraid to test things out, or push buttons to get where I want to go, but this is obscenely slow! Obviously, you were invited to voice your opinion, so that is why I am sounding off here. Would've on the poll, but it has been closed. The screen is too bright too! The ads are distracting, and yes, I understand it is a ploy to get you to pay for the service, which I was planning on doing anyway, til now. I hate to think of all the old timers with much valued information to share, that just won't even be bothered with trying to adapt to this. It's sad really, and another case of where bigger is NOT necessarily better...

I didn't get the invitation either. So don't feel bad. They opened it up to GFM to play in the sandbox prior to the big announcement. But I knew nothing about it till you mentioned it on this thread. See how much I read the gold feather member stuff
