Good mornin' Marans Ville!

Snow is almost all gone here, still have those stupid winds! Getting up into the 50s today, and 60s tomorrow! Calling for thunder storms Tuesday...go figure.

Didn't get any chances for pics yesterday, may try again today. Silkies all laid yesterday, I had 8 eggs! Only 1 Marans egg.

But I had enough saved up for a few days to hard boil and feed back to the chickens and the parrots. Wow, that was a major hit!! Mixed them up with some Game Bird feed and small amount of scratch, and tossed it out in the run. It was gone almost before it hit the ground! I have been trying to get my Quaker parakeets to eat egg for quite some time, but they were store bought eggs, and they would NOT touch them! Put a whole egg in there yesterday, and it was gone within 5 minutes! They will have to get another one today, as Bruiser was telling me, "get your bowl!", which means he wants to eat. He learned that from me telling Otho to get the dog bowls at dinner time. They figured out pretty quickly that screaming for your supper doesn't cut it here, but if you ASK for it, you get fed. Pretty darn smart! Even the baby Silkies got some, and they also ate it all up.

Played with the chicklets out in the coop yesterday for a bit. Two of the cockerels are competeing for my attention, it is really funny. They both follow me around, and then beg to get picked up and petted. If I pick up Pekker first, his in for an arse whooping by Jagger when I put him down! If I pick up Jagger first, then all is well.

Funny birds these are!

Hey Slick,

I wouldn't toss that guy in the first pic because you don't like his comb. Wish I had more combs that looked like that here! Like Pink said, try to get some better pics of him standing upright, frontal and profile if you can.

He is getting some very nice copper in the wing bow and around the head. It is just starting to come in on the upper hackles. He also has some that you can see on his breast.

Here's a side shot of his comb. Also his ear coverts on the other side are starting to change to copper. Hope both sides change.

Don't ya just hate that? You have free time, go to take pics and they have different ideas of what they want to do with that time and almost go out of their way to make sure that none of the pics turn out. Little stinkers!
Hey Kim...off subject for a sec, but not really. Do you know much is rural land going for up there per acre?

I honestly have no clue what rural land is going for around here, but if I had to guess probably somewhere between 7k to 20k depending on the land and what is on it. A few miles down the hill from my house a neighbor is selling his undeveloped land though he recently put a driveway in and had it perk tested for septic.... he is asking 80k for 5 acres, but it also has some river front access.

can't wait to see more shots of the stinker! I still wish that splash birchen boy I posted pics of way back hadn't had split wing.

sounds about what I was guessing. I've been eyein a place here and have been comparitively shopping in different parts of the country and there are some prices around that are just shocking. Over in Iowa rural land is going for 12,000 to 13,000 in places. I'm starting to think this place is a pretty good deal considering all the extras and its farther out in the country away from Lincoln and has a lot of extras. (haha...edited to add....I must have the extras on my mind eh? Did I mention the extras?

Wow! I sure won't be moving there in this lifetime!! Undeveloped land here is going for about $2,000.00 per acre, and folks are really complaining about how it's soared! I had to laugh when I moved here from CA., where an undeveloped, 1/2 acre, in the high desert was going for around $17,000.00 at that time, back in the late 80s!

One of my older Black Copper pullets is a TERRIBLE feather picker. So bad, that I've had to isolate her when they aren't free-ranging. (I looked at those peepers. NOT going to be using those.

) I've added a high protein supplement and it does seem to have helped the flock in general, however, Ruth doesn't seem to be that keen on the stuff. So I'm trying hard boiled eggs with her which she does enjoy.

She hates being caged.
