Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hi guys! I just hatched my first Marans... and I'm so excited! I have several splash Marans from CRFarm and several wheaton Marans from the Garry Farm. I'm also getting 15 Black Copper chicks in March. I've been reading and learning a ton on this thread and just wanted to introduce myself. Can't wait to get started!

I think I froze my 9 month old BCM's comb

. It went down below zero Fahrenheit last night and the boys are in a metal coop so it's a damp cold. Willow is the only one showing blue/black tips. I've had a heat lamp in there all day and he's been under it all day. I feel like such a SCHMUCK!!

Completely preventable.

One little hen lays a pretty nice egg. The other girl, with the nicer hackle color has a barely minimum color on hers. If it's still the end of her laying cycle we can hope for color improvement. And I think it is from what I was told. Maybe if I turn off the night light she'll quit laying and start fresh.
