Donna....I hope some of her eggs hatch for you!

I wonder what it is about some hens....its like they feel their life mission is to crank out babies....forget running around causing mayhem in the garden or chasing bugs.... I have a cuckoo girl that is insane that way too....I bet she spends over 3/4 of her life on the nest....its nuts. I finally gave her a clutch of ceramic eggs....she just won't take no for an answer

How funny!!! He really does look like the white version on my boy!!!

mine is from a cuckoo cockerel crossed with a blue birchen project girl. I believe mine is a splash.
On your boy....I would guess if he is a Marans, he would be a cuckoo/bcm cross, but not sure. The leg color does throw things off as far as making 100% certain guesses

Oh my god that is terrible!!! I am so sorry! What a big bummer. And here I was just bummed cuz my three year old daughter picked our very first tomato that I have been admiring for a week while it is still green and small. So sorry!

I think you should bring those babies home. I keep mine in the laundry room. But I hatch on a very small scale. I would be devastated.

Yeah its hard to tell with photos sometimes. My two golden cuckoo males have light legs but boy are the in-between-the-toes areas red lol. They think its springtime with the hormones!

I figured out why my big bcm cockeral is such a fat hog. Its because he doesn't share his food with the girls! I saw him eating today, and he actually chased girls away from the food dish as if they were roos. The other roos his age like girls and call them to eat but not him. I've never seen him mate or try to mate the girls either and I've been watching him. He is around 7 mos. Shouldn't he like girls by now?

If I had as hard of a time getting babies as you, I would be too. I am ok... it was not what I was expecting when I walked in this morning. There was nothing I could have done. It just happened... but I am going to try to make sure that does not happen again. Hubby was sure I was kidding.... he told me to start collecting more eggs, but we had to rearrange the pens. I just moved the girls to another pen

It is all good though. So today we moved them in with AM roos that needed more pullets anyway... I will collect them in about 2 weeks. With Leghorns it will not take long to have enough eggs. The worst part was I lost 4 Lav Split Am and 2 Lavs

those eggs are soooooo hard to get.

I understand about the tomatoes though.... I have gone down to get them only to find deer or a rabbit got to them first... or my son who took my first watermelon

Ok...personal preference question.... on your birds, do you prefer tighter or looser feathers? I like the feathers a bit tighter, but notice on the big tanks most have more poofy carriage and have been working to reduce it...its going well, but its made me wonder if anyone else notices it as much as I do or breeds for a certain type?
here is an example of tight feathering on one of my splash birchens....I just love her sleekness (barring the one tail feather that's broken

). This is an example for me of nice feathering, but do have others that are more poofy that I posted a few days ago....

I was wondering if he was maybe, a BCM x Golden cuckoo. Are his legs really pink or are they more whitish?

golden cuckoo would be possible too...to me on my screen the legs look really pink/red more than white, but maybe on the front of the legs and tops of the toes are different. I can't quite tell

I know it is kinda hard to tell from the picture, but the front of his legs are an off white color with the backs/sides and in between the toes being a reddish color. Hope this answers your question and thanks for all of your help! :)
