Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I didn't mean that she looked like Jello.....just quoting Bill Cosby basically saying that I do need more chookies.

Really she is nice bird and I would be very proud as you are to have her.

geebs, she could have a bit more coppering, but I like that what she does have is nice & dark. Her eye color is optimum, too. I truly do think you have a winner there!

Oh, I knew you didn't mean she looked like Jello! I was trying to "out clever" you, pink!

Well I hope to better her next year!!! No fuzzy toe... more red without diluting the black... etc.. (not sure how I am going to go about it)... Bev you could help me that!!!! I want to know if her Outline and type is good... That is the main thing... Is this what ppl are showing??? I am not anywhere Newnan or any other show and have not seen any one the feet so I am differing to you experts out there... Am I on the right track...

And thank you ladies.. you are regular cheerleaders... Wynette and Pink... I feel all warm and fuzzy... (holding my bird of course)..

I am just waiting for her to lay so I can do some test hatches.... (I hope the egg color is there)

Thanks Wynette... I will work on the coppering for the females... I needed red for a male.. I hope I get what I need... Bev if this isn't correct please tell me... I will show you the male and you can tell me if I will be able to improve the current male for the male line.

Is anyone weighing their birds at different ages? Like 3 months, 6 months, and 9 months? If so, I'd like to know what they are weighing so I can get an idea of where my birds are standing in that area. Thanks.

Those are mine.....Kathy sent me Delaware eggs, they are in the other incubator. The eggs in the pic are from Blue and Blue Coppers, a couple from the project pen and the rest are from the breeding pen. Unfortunately, I didn't get any other favorable eggs from either pen in enough time to hatch this time around. Thanks for the luck.

eta: Welsummers are in the middle and the green ones are from my 1st gen. olive egger gal, she is a Blue Copper Marans cross Blue AM product and I have crossed her to one of my Welsummer roosters for fun just to see what the offspring will look like.
