Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Ok I don't own a sprotsman but I am pretty sure they have a turner for that price and you are just seeing the add with the tray to one side.  They turn from one side to the other.  Mine (in my siggy) moves from one side to the other too.  I have a window on all my incubators.  I like to make sure nothing has gone out, still turning like it should, how much water is in the tray and watch the temps.  I have 3 different readings, just in case. I think Vicki has 6 :gig

Eggs have to be turned daily... I have heard from 1 on up.... Mine get turned 6 times a day with an automatic timer.

Yeah, looking at the ad it appears the egg trays are at a 60* angle or so and they are loaded with eggs, so I was wondering if I need my trays that way for whatever reasons. I will have turners. I'm going to have external temperature and hygrometer readings in both areas, so I didn't understand the necessity of viewing inside the incubator. Thanks for your response.

Good morning all!

Still waiting on my babies here. I'm thinking I need to check this bator for temps and adjust accordingly. I'm thinking it's running cooler than it shows? I do have 2 zipping right now, but no one on the ground yet, on day 22. Wish they'd hurry up, I have a mess of Silkie eggs to get in the bator!

Pink, sounds like you had a great day and a great hatch! Congrats!!

Hi Slick! The egg trays themselves for the Sportsman are not tilted, well the egg trays that I have for mine aren't. The eggs are straight up and down. I suspect they are the same for all Sportsmans.

This is what the tray looks like in a Sportsman with out one of the removable egg holding trays and the last little chickie I am waiting on to hatch in the very bottom in the white egg carton. I wish it would hurry up.

I've got 11 babies in the brooder with a 3.5 week old and 1.5 week old. They are doing great. Polly-Esther the slow feathering BCM pullet that I have in there is spoiled rotten and just gives me the look like..."just what do you think you are doing putting those in here?"

She got over it pretty quick and plopped right down in the middle of them and took a nap.

4 Splash, 5 Blues and 4 Blacks and hopefully pretty soon I will see what the last one is. The one that pipped the near the wrong end and was dry did not make it.
