Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Stoo~ Thank you very much for that and I got that the other day. Saw it and took full advantage of it! I agree it is a little far for you to come, but if you happen to find yourself over this direction my home is open to you. It's almost a fine time of year to spend the warm days on my front porch enjoying the pond, flowers and a bottle of wine.

Thanks for the invite.
The one and only time we were in Seattle for a race, it didn't rain once for the week we were there.
Loved it so much, we looked at property.
ALMOST put a deposit on a lot on Fox Island, outside of Tacoma.
But it was so out of the way for family.
HMMmmmmmm....

Didn't see it rain in Seattle??????? Un-real! You got jipped!

I agree with Vicki and think that if you can...you should hold on to him for a while longer. That split breast will fill in as he matures but I think it may take a bit longer than 6 mos. of age. I like him and think that he is worth holding on to. He has great copper!
yeah...more than 6 months is likely, but usually on birds you can get a really good feel whether their breast will fill in or not.

By the way kim....Once I get a bunch of this junk out of the way I have to do....I'm gonna work on getting some more update pics for you of my chicks from this year. I've got some thinning out to do, but overall, I'm pleased!

Morning, it is raining here this morning pretty hard so it will be a wet one today- left all the chickens inside :) they aren't big on rain!

Update on my cuckoo marans chicks, this morning the 4 babies left were eating food and moving around getting drinks of water, they are looking better and I haven't see any bloody poop today. We're hoping that they are on the road to recovery!!!

Oh good! I've sure been wondering how you were faring over there with your little ones!

Had a storm come out of nowhere with some major fierceness about 4:30 this morning....blew over grow out huts and broke limbs and etc....so, its a day of clean up before I have to go to work at 4. So far looks like I only lost one bird to dog piling, but I'm keeping my eyes open for any signs of injury or anything. I hate losing birds

You're right, I think he will end up being a pretty nice looking boy by sizing up the rest of him like you say. He has a good carriage and nice strong structure...this suggests to me that he is built to carry a nice beefy body.

I can't wait to see some of the chook-lets. The weather promises to behave here today and over the next couple days with some sunshine and possibly near 80* on Monday (:clap) so today and tomorrow, I am going to try and get some updated photos of some of the youngin's I am growing out too. :)

Good deal and I am very glad to hear they are feeling better. I hope they continue on a speedy recovery.
