I'm wondering if the "flame" would only apply to the Black Coppers and not the Blue Coppers? Flame, shmame, he's still gorgeous!

Wynette, yes you are right about the amount of points, If he didn't have the points on the blade of the comd he would have five. I will try and breed the blade points out of mine this next year, Most of mine do not have points on the comb Blade.

I don't know as I've ever hatched a brownish looking chick, regarding my "too much copper in the chest" hen - here's the lightest pic of a chick I've hatched - is this brown?

Egg questions:

How long does it take for a pullet to get her painting skills up to where they are going to be as an adult? I'm assuming that it takes some time for them to get it right. Are her first eggs the darkest she will ever produce or will egg color improve? Are speckles good or bad? Is shiny better than matte? Best shape?

I would think that what applies to the Black Coppers will apply to the Blue Coppers when/if they are accepted with the exception of the blue thing, I am sure the "blue" will have a standard proposed for its effects and/or its desired effects...ie lacing, hue, leakage that sort of thing, but I feel that is still a long way off.

Shape - believe it or not, an elongated "regular shaped" egg is not the preferred shape, a more rounded egg is preferred. Or at the least, an oval egg that both ends appear to be the same on. So - no smaller/larger end.

Aussie - yup - she has way more color than I prefer. Which is why she's in my layer pen! But, she does lay nice eggies! Here is the roo that I bred her to:

I only have three little eggies from her in the bator, due to hatch tomorrow....I'm so hoping that it's a nice combination with her and this boy! If not, though, it's okay. It was an experimental breeding.

I did bring eye color up with Walt or was it Sam while at a show and there can be quite a bit of difference between the lighter eye color of the rooster and the darker shade of the females.
