Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hi all

Martha - how's the piggies?

Anyone ever have the turning mechanism in your Sportsman break??

I heard a CLUNK and when I went to look, my egg trays were nearly Vertical

I have/had 5 trays of eggs in there, so didn't take it apart yet - wanted to wait for the hatcher to fire up!

Anyone ever have this happen to them??

From what I can see, It appears that the long arm, which is attached to the trays, attaches to a shorter, flat piece - and there, it appears a bolt has broken....

Any advice before I open it up?? Anyone ever have this happen??

I went out of my way to get an olive egger from someone far away. It was a third generation I understand. It was a BCM to an americana. Then those chicks were breed back to an unrelated BCM. Those chicks were breed back to an unrelated BCM again. My chick came from an olive green shelled egg. I think I have a problem in that this chick looks like it has a single comb. Does that mean I will only have brown eggs? What color brown? Dark? Khaki? Can anyone tell me what to expect. I really really wanted an olive green egg layer!I Here are some pictures of little Olivia. She is 4 weeks old. I guess she is going to have mostly BCM features. She does have the hairy lets.

Time will tell!

They do say the pea comb is linked to the blue egg gene, however, I have an OE with a pea comb and she lays a BROWN egg...

So....wait and see!
Good luck!

She's very cute, whatever color she lays!

Vicki, this one's for you! Little kitties everywhere! Two are missing from this pic, total of 7 ! Couldn't resist this pic. Tiger is mom of 2 in this bunch, the rest are her sisters' kids. Pure bliss on her face

Holy crap! I'll take that pearly colored one with the dark ears and tail! So freaking cute!!

Yeh, I don't even like cats per se, but that one is pretty! Looks almost like a blue point Siamese! The 2 that are missing are a red/white long hair, and a grey/white long hair. What a group! And all the moms take turn feeding all the kittens; kind of like a pride of lions? It's all good...

Got to find them first! They are younger than the ones pictured, and they are in hiding for the last two days. Either that, or something got them? I wish I could've gotten Pip in this pic, he was not too far off to the right. He really loves the little ones, it really is touching.

cute! Ya know the funny thing is that i'm not that big of a cat person either....I just love animals in general. I love watching the personalities that develop. Maybe that's why I love the Marans so much, they have such funny quirks and etc.
Remind me tomorrow to try and get a shot of the oldest blue copper chick I'm holding onto. He's just started getting in the saddle and wing color in the last 3 or 4 days and its lovely. Unfortunately, he was low man on the totem pole before I took a bunch of birds to the sale last week and is missing his tail. But I really do like him lots!

tomorrow I start the turner on the incubator. Hope this method works!! With my hatching luck, it sure can't hurt!

With the Silkies now proving themselves, I may just start giving them some eggs to sit on! Can't wait to see how many hatch over night!!
