Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I've been looking at Great Pyrenees. I've yet to see any that are already trained. Do tell.... The ones I find seem to be either in Texas, OR incredibly expensive, but so far.... never trained.

ETA: Wait a minute.... what happened to 3rivers post about LGDs being trained? it was like she told me that money was falling from the sky. No wonder it disappeared. too good to be true.
It's there somewhere back a page or two!
no worries!

well...took 41 birds, all but 5 of those were chicks of various ages and the last of the cuckoos, which by the way, Donna, I've got a PM coming to you here in a couple of minutes. I'm feeling much better having thinned out the third hatch of the year and made some more space for the silvers by removing the cuckoos. Will take more over the week after the 4th. I didn't stay over only because I have plenty of other stuff to keep me busy at the moment, including sorting out meets for the show in november..which is going pretty good so far!

Congrats!!!

I need some help. I don't understand some of the colors. I see pics of wheatens and they look like BCM. I have BBR ameraucanas and they look like BCM.

HELP!! I so don't understand!

What are BBR Ameraucanas?

Ok not the best pic after I edited it.... this was a Wheaten Am I had that had DQ's so he was sold and an EE. That cinnamon in his wing is the difference between BCM and Wheatens. The pullet are a completely different color. Wheaten pullets are Buff with color in their tail and wings.

On a good year we can get three cuts in New England. Needs to be a year with an early first cut. I don't do haying anymore. Unloading a 16T truck in 2-3 hours is enough! LOL

I'm here in northeastern PA, but, usually our spring is so wet that, by the time that we can get on the field, it's too late to get more than 2 cuttings...some years, we only get one, so any extra land is a HUGE bonus for us!

Ugh - I don't envy you unloading a big truck like that!
Where does your hay come from? Canada?
