Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Side note... Anyone have luck with winter hatches?
I'm located across the river from Detroit MI (for those of you who are close)
Thanks
patricia

Also from the great, white, north. If you don't mind raising them in the house for longer than usual, I highly recommend it! Only time I've EVER had Marans start laying early - hatch them in the fall/winter and when longer, spring days arrive they get right to business!

This is one of the chicks from my eggs correct? She is looking identical to Bad Betty and it is very possible that you got a couple of eggs from her. This point is it coming out the side or does the comb seem to twist right there, making the look as though if we could stretch it out it would straighten up? Did that even make sense, LOL?

Not yours... this one is POL. All along I thought she had a little twist- no biggy. But it looks more like a point off the side. Going to have to grab her tonight and get a better inspection- but it really looks like off to the side

the only other blue pullet I have...... she is smaller then my black pullet from same hatch- but still has "chunk" to her- if that makes sense lol

Elisha~ She has beautiful lacing.....but she is very dark and the eyes are very dark. Ad this to the twist in the comb and I would use her for pretty eating eggs and not for breeding.

Awwww! She's lovely but looks as though she is going to be very dark as well. Man I tell ya....what I wouldn't give for some of those lovely copper collar'd girls like Vicki's Blue Copper pullet, Luella. :love

heehee.... I'm hoping for a great hatching year next year to see if I might be able to get closer to my goal

How's the house/land hunting going ma'am?

Yeah.... she is really pretty, but I see the faults too. My husband on the other hand will not be so convinced lol he loves her color..... he is used to breeding the mutts (my barnyard beauties) and gets annoyed when I start pointing out the bad things on the marans lol oh well..... we'll see what kind of chocolate she lays...

She is darker then Gracie for sure.... but I still love it.. She isn't showing any copper yet- but her two hatch mates have it, so we'll see...
