any thoughts on what appears to be a poor comb?

I'm in the process of working through my pullets making plans for breeding early spring

Are you asking about a comb on a bird that you have? If it is a bird you have do you have a photo of the comb to share?

Or are you asking about the comb on Mountainviews pullet?

If inquiring about the comb on Andy's pullet...IMO...she is one of those birds that is so nice, that in this case, a person would look past her comb (unless sprigs are present or something worse) and use her for breeding.

It seems as though we have been pounding on bad combs so long that it is important all at once. The pullet in question is so good type wise that the comb would be ignored. The only thing to really worry about on the comb is a DQ.

the SOP calls for slate over pink...(lighter legs??) - are you proposing petitioning the APA to chage it?

Wynette, will give you a short and to the point reply and would be glad to pm you with what I really believe about the leg color.

What the sop says has very little to do with breeding to the SOP. You just can not take what the Marans Standard says to be the honest truth. If you remember the Wheaten Standard had to be changed before it was approved. That is all I will say on BYC.

Kim , If I had this Pullet I would take to Ohio National next month and clean house down there. She looks a lot like the Marans Vicki is working with, All I can say is a beautiful Pullet.

I fail to see anything not to like about your pullet. How is the leg length ? She has what I like in a Marans good deep body and real good type. She looks to good to mention the uninportant things,

One thing I want to bring up now. Look at the soft underneath feathers see how black they are and no BROWN like we often see. also notice the soft feathers do not run up the side of the body.

Do you have a male bird of you line we could see a picture.

Unfortunately I think that photos are going to have to wait Don. They started harvesting in the field across the road to the North and it currently looks like we are in a dust bowl with all the wind. I'll see how far they get today to see if maybe I can get some shots tomorrow.
