Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hi Vicki!
I would love to send them in but they are slated for the 'bator for a test hatch before I send some eggs out to folks that have waiting very patiently since early this year.
Let me see what she gives me this next week, if she gives me ones like these I will try to save a few out. Do you suggest sending more than 3?

That would be great if she would give you some this week! It might not be a bad idea to send an extra, but sounds like as long as they are packed safely, they will do fine! They are really lovely eggs and think you'll do well. If you do get some, let me know and I'll get you my address and toss in a self addressed stamped envelope and I'll send back to you whatever you win and your score cards!

Hi everyone!  I have 2 one-year-old hens that are developing white feathers (like pin feathers?) on their faces.  Is this normal?  Here is a picture showing the one with the least of these.  Thanks!  I should mention that they don't have white feathers anywhere else and haven't had this on their faces until the last month or so.

Hi Simz!

Lovely tone of copper on this gal. I too have experienced this white pins around the face in some Black Coppers I had shipped to me and have also asked this same question but never did get to the bottom of what causes it or if it is bad. Ultimately, I ended up culling the birds as they other issues. Hope others come by and discuss this. I would love to hear some thoughts on it.

I have had this in may Buff Brahma females and it was there when I bought them originally from Georgia from one of the better breeders. It should not be there but would only be a fault and if that is all that is wrong with them would not worry about it. Never had it except on the females around the top of the head.

How old were they Don? When it showed up on the birds I had they too were almost 2 years old, prior to this age they didn't have them.
