Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

So yesterday I was able to get a couple of photos....guess what I saw on what I am thinking is a Black Copper male?

When he was out in a different part of the yard that is in full daylight, I noticed edging. Could it be that he is truly a very very dark blue? Like Bill was?
As I look back through notes and photos...I started noticing the same with Bill when he was maturing.

Bill - 4-5 months of age

Bill again approx. 7-8 mos.

The photo of the young male from the other day... in a more shaded part of the yards.

The photo that I snapped of him yesterday that makes me think he is not truly black. What do you all think? Or am I crazy and seeing things?

What I would do is mate him to one of your splash girls. If he is truly black, you will get 100% blue, but if not, you will get all three, black, blue and splash. The other thing it will do for you is to lighten the blue in the next generation, which will also increase your chances of the copper showing more on the offspring.

I'm gonna try to get some photos today when I'm working, hopefully the weather will clear. Its 9:30 but still foggy out. This morning at 7 it was so foggy I couldn't see 10 feet outside the window. Hopefully I'll have some good shots for you to look at later on despite the weather

I hope you get some sleep tonight.....the last 2 nights I have slept like a rock, not normal but much needed and this morning DH says, "I'm back to my normal ornery self!" :D

Here is a photo of the only blue copper gal I kept back. She has her flaws but mostly I kept her due to egg color and overall size. She is very broad.

and not the best photo of her but does show her big broad shoulder area.

Me too...I've had a lot on my mind the last few days and my back's been giving me fits at night. I do well during the day, but just can't get comfortable when its time to sleep.

I like the looks of her from what I can see in the photo that posted. Was there supposed to be two photos? I wasn't sure what that link was for
