Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Looking for Black Copper or Blue Copper Eggs:

Hello I'm looking to swap or trade some Welsummer Eggs for some Black Copper or Blue Copper Maran Eggs. I'm not really interested in the Splash Marans so If you have Blues I need them to be Black Copper roo over Blue hens or Blue Copper roo over black hens. You get the idea. I also need these to be NPIP because I am NPIP.

If you are interested in this or know of someone who would me. Please PM me or reply to this thread.

Thanks

Brian

Question for all who breed the Marans???
More like an un-official poll.......
What was the thing that grabbed you most about the Marans to make you want to breed them and stick with them?
eta: Basically looking for what makes you tick when it comes to these birds.
Looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say. :)

The eggs - I am captivated by the eggs. The rest of the breed grew on me.

Here is my candler my son came up with the idea and it works.

All the tools you need a water bottle top (I cut it bigger with a utility knife and then marked it and cut the rest with scissors) Electric tape and a flashlight.

Cut the top to fit the top of your flashlight. I have used bigger flashlights and it works fine with them... just focuses the light.

I start the tape at the bottom to attach the cap to the flashlight and work my way up make sure you cover the cap really well so no light is getting out to blind you.

Here is a view from the top after it cap is on.

This is a Marans egg, these are eggs I was going to put in the bator... should have used some with babies in them already

Brown egg

Another thing I do... I use the 30 egg trays for my incubator and I just take the tray into the bathroom (dark room no window) and I just put the flashlight over the top of the eggs, that way I don't have to pick them up and possible drop the eggs..... It also goes really quick.

Today I got some fun shots of my 6 month old cockerel.

How does my cockerel look? I lost all my Marans pullets this Summer (I only had 2 out of all the 10 Marans chicks I bought anyway lol- the rest all males). It was very very hot. He is all I have left now after re-homing and freezer camping the other cockerels.
I'm not going to comment on his type as I am still learning the standard, but just want to say that is a great action shot!

Yes I agree DMRippy, but I already have a classified going selling Welsummer eggs at the moment and looks like I'm only allowed one classified at a time. So I thought I would post here to those who own Marans already, And who might want some Welsummers also. I already have some BCM's but would like to add to my laying flock for next year.

How can I have more than one classified open at a time? I see that you have 2 open...

Thanks
