Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hi you Maran Experts, I am in need of some help please.
Here are a few pics of some French Wheaten Marans. Keep in mind this is not them looking their best. Can you please tell me if these are of good quality or just some average birds?

Pullet. 12 weeks old.

Rooster.

one of the hens-

This is one of the Maran eggs (front) with an Australorp (left) and Ancona egg(right). This is not the darkest egg she's had they have just gone off season (so eggs lighten) they usually lay 6+.

I got some pics today of my young roos I have growing out. One is Black Copper and the other Blue Copper. I don't see any DQ's on either. The black copper has NICE DARK Copper, kinda like that roo you posted a time or too. Nice even color all over. I am liking that about him. His tail is a little too high right now (I don't have any hopes for a change) but I don't see a reason to cull him. The Blue Copper is looking SOOOO much Like his daddy but different. The younger one has more color than his dad did at that age.....

sounds good lady

OK I will put a few pics up. I will PM you more later... maybe tomorrow.

Daddy probably

Son - I like his tail set, nice open tail. The only thing I wish is he was not as light in the lower hackles, but that might be a good thing? Add color to the pullets????

Just for an idea of shape. He is not standing naturally. Tail is a little higher than it really is.

It would be nice if he were as wide at the back as he is at the front. That is the way his dad is too. I need some REALLY wide pullets LOL

OK now the Black Copper HE was NOT cooperating

He has the same basic shape as his brother. Wider front narrow back end.

He is squished a little hunkered down... his neck is longer LOL

I don't like his tail... this is really the way he holds it.... to sharp of an upturn I think.

These two cockerels and pullet are about 3 months old, I got them in a mixed chick set at a swap meet. I have been trying to determine what they might be. The boys now have a few feathers on their legs which led me to ask yall Marans experts if that is what these may be, or at least partially be, lol. Someone on another thread did say the roos color was birchen with red leakage. The pullet has no leg feathers and is white leg and beak. Thanks for any info.

These look like they might be mixed with some type of game bird. The way their tails look kinda fan-like and the way its set makes me think this. The hen in the last pic looks like she has silver duckwing coloring but with more silver? Is she laying yet? She looks kinda young yet but watch for what color the eggs are. The male does look like birchen with gold leakage but that is just a color not really determining of whether or not it is a Marans.
