Here's a few more photos of my oldest chicks. I apologize for the crappy lighting, and for everything coming out so yellow, but I didn't have another day light bulb on hand, so it skews the colors a bit. Its good to be seeing more progress and look forward to continuing the work.
One of my black birchen cockerels, with a nice silver collar and is starting to get silver saddle feathers now. I like his stance and angling.

A big black birchen pullet (plenty larger than the cockerel). The two closer photos below this one are to show the head structure and the silver color coming in. They eyes are just now starting to change a bit. She is wide and beefy.

This is the 'Wild Bunch'. This is what I got for my second attempt at photos, the stink eyes and hackle raise....silly turds.

A close up of head structure and how the eye color is looking at 8 weeks. I believe she will have a nice wide head. Yet again, another stink eye. They really are sweeties, even tho she looks like she'd going to kill someone haha

Ok I am not pinkchick but i do know the roos carry 2 of the same genes. That to allows roos to have double barring. The hens determine gender they carry one of each. If humans are xx female and xy male it is the OPPOSITE in chickens. Roos are xx and hens are xy. I know those are not the right letters but i cant think what they are and i cant look them up.

The barring gene is on the x genes for example. If the hen is barred she can only pass the barring to the male chicks. If the roo is correctly barred he would pass it off to 100% of the chicks.

Vicki NICE!

I have a black copper growing out that i am really liking. He has about the same coloring in his hackles. Nice even color too. He has not stared to ge much color all over but it looks like the same color as his hackles.

Thanks so much everyone! I can definitely grasp genetics a bit better these days than back 3 years ago. I have that come genetics ebook hidden somewhere I just must dust it off and give it a read again!

One question: what did you mean if the Roo is correctly barred? If he has 2 copies of the genes? Say I have my Splash cockerels here and no splash pullets which were the product of silver cuckoo Roo x blue copper hen, would the cockerels have still 2 copies? I know the pullets would have only the one. I appreciate all your responses you are wonderful! And those of you with websites your birds are lovely. Pink's blue coppers are pretty!

Someone may have answered already if so sorry.

Yes barred or cuckoo roos would need 2 copyies of that sex linked trait to breed TRUE. The only way to get roos with 2 copies is to have a barred roo and barred hen. Roos with one copy look more hen like in color. Roos with double barring genes will be whiter looking and the ones with one copy will be darker looking.

For nomal breeding you NEED a double barred roo. Single barred roos can be used but you need to understand how the genes work and what you could get.

Good morning all! I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post in but I wanted to share a picture of what I believe to be a FBCM. "She" (as I'm not sure yet) is about 5 or 6 weeks old and has the most feathered feet I've ever seen on a Marans. Is this amount of feathering on her feet/legs a good or bad thing? I have others I hatched out back in Novemeber and a couple in the same hatch this one is from and none of them have as much feathers on their legs and feet as she does. Thanks for your input in advance!

This female will be a good breeder if all else is ok, looks very good.
