if you are seeing copper you should be able to sex them. both males and females should have copper in the hackles. are you asking about the pointy feathers roos get? if so yes all roos have those in all breeds. if you can post pics we can help sex them.

Question for you guys... I have 3 BCM chicks that are 3 weeks old. I am wondering if anyone can help me tell whether they are cockerels or pullets..... I have a head shot and a wing shot of each.... They are all feathering pretty fast, and have more feathers on their bodies than their buff cochin hatch mates.... They also have tail feathers, which the cochins don't yet. Chick one.... pinkish comb Chick 2 orangish comb Chick 3 light orange/yellowish comb

the fist chick is a roo. the other two I am not sure but look more like pullets time will tell.

Is it possible to have a henny rooster in the Marans breed. I can normally tell gender quite quickly with my marans but this one looks just like a girl but has a huge red comb. markings like a pullet so far...

I'm one of the people who just wants pretty birds and pretty eggs. I already show my horse and used to show my dog. That's enough competition for me. LOL That said, I absolutely love how the Blue Splash marans look and I'll be hatching some marans eggs soon. I'm just curious if anyone has gotten darker-than-Orpington brown with their blue splash marans? I've heard that the egg color is pretty dilute in that variation.

I got my splash Marans from MyPetChicken and they have never laid dark eggs.

yea I agree with you. thanks so much! as of right now, judging by the egg coloring, I am calling my 3 oldest hens, Marans!!!

Pretty eggs, like yours some of my marans lay real dark and some lay lighter ones, but they all taste nummey, and sure dress up those clear egg cartons I use, and people do pay more $ for the dark ones.
