Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hi good maran folks, I have a question. I have 3 BCM pullets that are just over 15 weeks old. I found a beautiful egg today that I am sure is from one of them. I posted this on Facebook and am being told pretty much that I'm a liar or crazy bc marans don't lay that young. I was not expecting them too but found this egg.
Does this look like an egg that a barred rock, SLW, or production red would have layed?? They are the only other brown egg layers I have. Thanks!

True, most BCM's don't normally lay that young, but, guess there could be those exceptions to the rule. Perhaps you could try to wash or scratch the color off, if it is removable there would be a greater possiblity that it is indeed from your Marans pullet.......... thoughts from others on this ???

Can anyone confirm that I have 2 blue chicks and 1 splash?

Also, ever seen these kind of toes? Planning on selling this one as a pet.

i have raised up some blue coppers with black coppers and while they were young i could tell them apart easily (i never thought to mark them seperately)......... now they are grown i can not tell which ones is blue coppers (?) .
Is there any way to identify them at all ? I am color blind but color blind only means partial so some colors i can see some i can not .
Thanks for any help ,
James

I don't have a suggestion to help you. Blue chickens are not really blue they are gray so not sure that would be a color that you couldn't see. Some blues are so dark the only way you would know they are BLUE is a test mating..... If you want to put up pictures we might can tell you which ones are blue.

Thanks for reply .
They were very easy to tell apart when young but now all look to be black coppers . We had some blue coppers years back and the grown ones were easy to tell apart . But these for some reason or looking (to me) all black copper .
Does the blue copper rooster ever come with some white feathers in tail and wings ? (as i have a couple of the roosters with this)

I will try to get some pics in the next few days and let you know (thanks for responding)
Thanks ,
James

Both colors can have white feathers.
Yes .... it's a fault with black coppers(correct?) but is it the same with blue coppers (a-fault)? i should have worded my question better . Just thinking that Blue Coppers might be allowed some white feathers and be the reason a couple these roosters has white in wings and tail . I had not seen this in the BC i've had for years .
Thanks

White feathers on Marans is a DQ.
ok thanks DMRippy ..... it's 100% rain here today so no pics ............. with marans i breed for the darker egg and if one is show quality among them i use it . But these i'm asking about are new birds kept in their pens and not to be mixed with my others .
Thanks
