Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I can't remember where I read it I look on the web about blue marans and blue copper marans it was some thing I was thinking about I fairly new to the marans so I'm still trying to figure thing out. Question what would you need to breed to get a salmon marans
It's not what you "need", it's what you "don't" need.

Golden Salmon is when there are no other colors but Gold and located on the e+ locus. Then if you take away the gold gene and add a silver gene, you get Silver Salmon. Then if you want the blue version, you can add the blue gene or either the e+ based silver ...or the e+ based gold bird.
Simple as that. Salmon is much more the "absence" of almost every color gene or modifier gene. Breeding Salmon Marans is a winnowing process, not a balancing process. See how simple it is? Simple, but at the same time very difficult in its simplicity. Because you need 2 birds with at least one half of their genetics based on the e+ locus..and no autosomal red involved anywhere. . Then you are culling for 25%, 12,5% or as little as 6.25% of all the chicks hatched in a season. It's winnowing the pure gold out of the classic gold and silver genetics crossings. If you can get birds which are 1/2 Silver Salmon and 1/2 Golden Salmon, and both birds at least 1/2 e+ locus, you can get Golden Salmon from them.
Best,
Karen

This is a Marans. He came from the Marans order I placed last fall with a source I'll never order from again because of all the substitutions. I ordered BTB and Silver Cuckoos, and got mostly wheaton + this guy.

Is he a Blue Tailed Buff?

Do you have any of his chick pictures? If not, what did his chick down look like?

My brother's phone camera takes blurry pics, that's why I had to get a good camera.

Here are the best pics I could find.

I'm not an expert, far from it, but the first picture shows dorsal lines like a wildtype chick. Golden Salmon and Silver Salmon are wildtype, but the base color is off. Even the last picture shows a bit of a dorsal line at tip. Wheaten and BTB chicks don't look like these. Anyone else have any ideas?

Almost looks like my autosexing breeds like a CCL the roos will have a spot on the head like that too..... strange.... not a pure Marans for sure. Never seen a pic of a chick like that.
I'll stop short of saying that he's not pure Marans, but, at best, I think his variety is mixed. I saw a picture of a Cuckoo x Golden Salmon Marans chick that still had dorsal stripes. BTW, which chick was he in the pictures? No doubt, that makes a big difference.
