Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

If it is Blue it will be a Blue Copper Marans even if it does not show any copper as the Dad was a Black Copper Marans or a Blue Copper Marans. It is a little confusing but some of it is the abbreviation BCM. Stands for Black Copper Marans.
SO... what she is selling then is Blue Cooper Marans NOT PLAIN Blue Marans.... this is starting to make sense to me... ... the goal was to find just Blue Marans NOT the Blue Cooper. My oh My have I chosen a breed that will be near impossible to find LOL

As someone mentioned before, true Blue Marans are rare.

She has a blue.. the Hen is Blue and the Roo is BCM... she shared she gets mostly black BUT can get a blue here and there. ... SO IF I am understanding your correctly .... a blue crossed with a BCM is still a BCM EVEN if its Blue... ?????? Sorry to sound so stupid.
Asking questions proves you are not stupid.

Blue crossed with black either way statistically yields 50% blue and 50% black. Breeding a blue copper Marans to a black copper Marans will get you BBS copper Marans (blue/black/splash). It is suggested NOT to breed a blue-bred black into BCM lines, but it's fine to cross a BCM into your blue copper lines to improve type or egg color or whatever. Just know that any resulting black chicks are not BCM but blue-bred blacks (BBS copper Marans).

When I read back over that it is clear to me, but if anyone can say it clearer to help out clankeyes please chime in.

So in all honesty... when I asked if her Hens are Blue she says YES.. BUT is breeding to BCM. I read what you wrote 5 times LOL.. Its sinking into my thick head. I just want to have some Blues 2 or 3 Hens and a Roo someday. BUT I don't want to miss-represent what I would have when selling chicks/eggs. There is a gal in my area who has BCM.. maybe I should go the easy route and buy some of them LOL... Then I know what she has. I am getting a bit nervous with not knowing the background of the Blue hen.. I do know when Rooster is a Black Cooper Marans. BE HONEST!!!! Am I making this more difficult for myself and over thinking this whole thing?

I think what you want is SOLID BLUES you are not going to get them from those birds. If you want Copper Marans, either blue or black, you need to get them from someone that knows what they are breeding. Sounds like she is only breeding the blue to the BCM because that is all she has. You will not get very good coppers from that cross. You would need to breed them back to more coppers to improve the color as the genes for the copper will be incomplete from that cross.
