Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I am new...and missed the bickering part :O) I keep varied breeds just for their healthy and pretty eggs. I have Black Marans and in a couple of weeks I will be getting some Blue Splash Marans. I am now a grandmother and have kept chickens since I was 6 years old... I just love everything about them..they are such beautiful birds - Gina

Welcome! I also have a variety of breeds for pretty eggs :) I have black and blue copper marans, easter eggers, wyandottes and more. I'm still a newbie so anxiously awaiting my eggs :)

Just wanted to share another one of my Marans chicks. He's one month old today, and from the same breeder that my chipmunk kids came from, but from a different pen (obviously! lol) I'm pretty much in love with this little guy, as he's just the sweetest little thing, and I think he's beautiful, but that's my uneducated biased Mama opinion! LOL!
His name is Sgt. Pepper. I am 99.9% sure he's a boy. ;)

I'm sure he's not old enough yet to really evaluate for quality, but I sure hope he develops into a breeding-quality roo!

Keep an eye on the color on his breast..... it should not be there.

ok...see, these are the kinds of things I need to know/learn! :) He's safe for cuteness reasons...if he doesn't work out as a pure Marans, he will be a Papa in my olive egger program!

Your boy is going to be very handsome. I wanted a good looking LF Blue Copper Marans roo like your Pepper, but it looks like I am growing a Velociraptor instead:

The poor thing is not going to be as majestic as I has hoped.

They can change so much so quickly, so don't give up on him! Kind of like the ugly duckling turning into an elegant swan....

Awww, jtbass, your guy is cute! Several of mine currently look like little buzzards...Sgt. Pepper is by far the sexiest little guy in the brooder right now! LOL definitely don't give up!

I thought I was looking at my Blue! They look pretty similar Lol. He's in my avatar ;) though my Blue is about 3 weeks older than your Sgt. Pepper.
